Medium lemon yellow standards with rosy pink infused centers. Falls are a very deep maroon with a lavender pink diffused band that blends to a light lemon pink band. Big wide and ruffled blooms on show stems will stop you dead in your tracks. OOh la la!!

A difficult iris to photograph but stunning to see in person, especially in clump. White standards have a clean gold edge. Falls are white with a deep violet band and gold touched hafts. The super clean white falls are the perfect contrast for tangerine beards. A clump of Reach the Stars is memorable to say the least!!

Heavily ruffled standards are magenta blended to darker rose magenta. Lighter chalky rose maroon falls have a bluish cast and have hafts and narrow bands of the standard’s color. Intriguing beards are dark mustard tipped brown. Tall, well-branched stalks have 7 buds.

Slight sweet fragrance Sparkling pristine white flowers have standards decorated with wide vibrant mid violet plicata bands and sparse sanded veins over their centers. Amount of center markings varies considerably from sparse to overall. Contrasting dark plum style crests peak out over white falls with narrow mid purple plic bands. Dark wine sanded darts cover the hafts then give way to closely spaced light yellow veins. Light marigold to white beards are the perfect complement. Pronounced sweet fragrance For breeders, here’s a lovely twofer for you, luminata and plicata on one side and lace of the other. It makes for an exciting parent. Ruffled and lightly laced khaki standards have slate red violet bases. Light khaki style crests are laced. Mid yellow hafts are veined mid mahogany and darker mahogany over lower half. How to describe the ever-changing? Sometimes it is white with very little mid lilac plicata marking and other times it has only a small amount of white showing and all sorts in between. Either way, it is unique. Thank you, Sarah Schwass, for the name.

In the quest for a spectrum red iris, many interesting variations occur. The falls of ‘Radiant Garnet’ are an interesting descending gradation of ruby to garnet. Old gold beards sit in a nest of violet veins on white hafts. Magenta standards encase copper styles. Two branches plus spur produce 9-10 flowers with a nice sweet fragrance.

Pronounced spicy fragrance. It is also quite white embellished with yellow veined hafts. Very pretty form. Well-branched stalks and plenty of buds. Makes showy clumps.

QUIGLEY (Thomas Johnson ’22)

Slight fragrance. I found it quite difficult to capture the unique beauty of Quigley in a photograph. I am still not completely satisfied. The color is more vibrant than the photo shows. It is one of those that I kept coming back to admire and study its unique coloration. Really fun in full clump, sorry I missed getting a good clump shot, but there is so much happening at once in the spring and such little time. Brassy gold standards with a little white ground showing in the centers. Falls have a white ground below the beard then cinnamon dotting and a central belly stripe. A brassy gold band encircles the fall. Very different and unique.

Light lemon-yellow infused pink standards, flushed heavier in the centers. Lavender and rose blended falls with deeper texture veins and lemon buff edge. Large gorgeous ruffled form. Not a color for everyone but one that I love and look forward to seeing each year. Definitely unique!

‘Pussycat Eyes’ is an altogether amazing quarter bred arilbred. Easy growing arilbreds with such strong aril characteristics are rare and even more rare is having 2 branches and at least 7 buds. Palest lilac standards surround yellow styles. Wide, arched falls have big black signals giving way to a dark cherry area and then to mid red purple and finished with a 1/4” tan gold band. Grows easily in average garden conditions.

Pronounced sweet fragrance The name says it all – it’s purple. Mid purple standards and styles color repeats in a narrow band around dark purple falls.
