‘Crashing Whitecaps’ is a superior iris in all respects. You’ll be glad you have it in your garden when you see its clump filled with show stalks standing tall among robust clean foliage. Cool white standards and styles color is repeated across the hafts on mid violet blue falls. Mid orange beards vie for attention. Stalks have 3 branches plus spur and 9-11 buds. A sure show winner. CROCODILE SMILE (Paul Black '22)

Pronounced sweet fragrance If I could have only one of my plicatas to breed with, it would be this one. Its genetic diversity, including several instances of ‘Dolce’ plus SDBs, IBs, tet MTBs, BBs and TBs, has given rise to unique colors and patterns in addition to solid growth. White ground standards are washed pale mustard becoming darker toward edges then embellished with darker mustard fine veining overall and white edges. Yellow styles are held within strongly held standards. Expansive white ground falls are widely plicata banded dark olive gold with more olive random dotting and line down centers, over centers and haft. Unique olive gold beards complete this unusual creature. Three branches have 7-8 buds.

Beige standards with violet flush up the midrib and slight gold blending at petal edges. Falls are a rich deep lavender becoming lighter at the edge. Burnt orange beards are tipped deep lavender. This is a very classy looking iris with gorgeous form and wide ruffles on show stems with ample buds. A very dependable and consistent showoff in clump. Nice!!

Sweet fragrance. Standards are a deep golden yellow at the base lightening to a very light yellow at the edge. Falls are a clean mid lavender with a slight yellow blush at the hafts. Slight fragrance. Rich butter yellow standards. Falls have a light creamy yellow base that is a near solid patch in center becoming a lined and rayed pattern that is overlaid mid to deep violet, then the petals are etched light yellow with a purple wire rim. Nicely ruffled and pleated flowers are extremely bright and showy. Quite a unique application of color and pattern. Lovely show stems and good bud count assure it to be a contender on the show bench. A favorite since its maiden bloom.

A garden favorite from its maiden bloom and has remained so. It is a great show-off in the garden with its bold contrasting colors including bright red beards. You won’t need a name tag to know what it is. From crosses I made while in Australia.

TB Midseason-Late 36” (91cm) Sweet fragrance. There is nothing like a well formed solid medium purple to violet iris. Dark Hour is a very strong grower with lots of beautiful show stems and a lovely sweet perfume. The blue beard really adds to the attraction. A quality garden iris!!

Yellow standards sit atop deep maroon falls. There is a yellow area that surrounds the beard and a light yellow-beige blended edge. Tall and well-branched stems assure that Dashing Stranger gets noticed in the later part of the flowering season.

Warm peach pink standards have pink centers. Falls are pink with a violet wash and wide pink band. Delicioso is an early season delight. A real bright spot with nice stems and buds, it is a favorite that we look forward to seeing each year.

The disguise is a brilliant success. Who’d expect anything evil about this lavish blending of dark to mid purples adorned with an angelic near white beard. Super wide falls with lightly ruffled edges allow an unobstructed display of its alluring color. Minimal plicata marking of the standards at the midrib hint at its plicata heritage. Three well-spaced branches carry 9-10 buds.

Light sweet fragrance. Intense true medium to deep pink standards. Falls have a light pink center with a medium pink band. Beards are pink and orange with a short lavender tip. Gold standards with slight violet line up the midrib. Falls are lavender purple with deep gold thumbprints on either side of brilliant tangerine beards. A brown band around the falls brings the whole pattern to life. Wide overlapping falls, an easy grower and very floriferous, Diamond Heart is a welcome addition to the early season.

Sweet fragrance. Icy white standards are infused light violet and pink at the midrib. Falls are lavender-blue violet with a lighter lavender edge. What brings life to Distant Shores is the pink in the base of the standards. It draws your eye in for a closer inspection of the frosted blue violet beard. Deep grape purple standards. Falls are grape purple with deep purple black lines and a wide grape purple band. Deep brown and grape purple blended beards. Nicely ruffled flowers on good stems. A truly unique creation with a very clean and mysterious look. I love it, and hope you will too.
