Musky fragrance. Over-the-top color and pattern are its hallmark. Is there room left for anything else? Thirty years ago such things were hardly imaginable. Veined and banded standards rise above falls with contrasting hafts, cascading centers, and a contrasting band. Wow! Add to that well-branched stalks with three branches and a spur with 10-12 buds. Slight sweet fragrance As far as I know, this is the first variegated foliage SDB to be introduced. I’ve bloomed others but none good enough to introduce. ‘Futuristic’ had an interesting beginning. Bloom the first year was a mix of gray-white flowers, grayed pink flowers and some broken colored of gray and pink. Since then, most have transitioned to light gray with a light tan haft veined darker slate tan and narrowly bordered slate violet. There are very subtle light tan broken color segments. Mid old gold beards give a little life to these more somber colors. ‘Futuristic’ is fertile and can produce variegated foliage and broken color flowers but progress is slow. Sdlg. Slight fragrance. This iris has fascinated me since its maiden bloom. The pattern is different especially for a horned variety. Standards and styles are a medium coral pink. Flaring falls are like a zebra. Is it medium orchid violet with pink veins or deep pink with medium orchid violet veins? The falls also have a defined narrow band of pink-orchid. Sweet fragrance. Golden orange standards tower over deep old rose falls with a large central blue violet wash. Hafts are touched gold on either side of burnt orange beards. Standards are light lilac with mid gold bases, random dark violet flecks and gold stitched band. Styles are dark apricot gold. Big bold dark to ruby blended fall spots are widely banded mid ochre. Slight sweet fragrance. Moderately ruffled jaunty flowers are produced in great abundance by strong plants and on heavily branched stalks. Mid blue standards blend to near white margins. Hafts on near white falls are shaded light blue. Big orange beards end in light violet tips. Four evenly spaced branches plus branch spur produce 14-16 buds and a very long bloom season. A top-notch garden performer.

Sweet fragrance. This smaller flowered tall bearded beauty traces back to ‘Passionate Embrace’ and the unusually colored flowers it produces, particularly in the citrus colors. Its myriads of show stalks cover the clumps in bloom. The white fall bands make it pop. Contrasting style arms are characteristic of ‘Passionate Embrace’ offspring, as are unique colors and show branched stalks. Sdlg. Sweet fragrance. Stately and bold probably best describes Garden Prince. Classic form on this lovely lavender-blue-purple. The hafts and style crests are touched chocolate. The fall is also bordered in a deeper violet edge. Orange beards tipped blue complete the look. Very nicely branched stems and with good bud count. An intriguing iris and one that always drew me for a closer look when walking through the seedlings.

A delightful mix of colors. The standards are soft lilac with a blended 1/4” edge of buff pink and flush at the midribs. The falls are light burgundy, lightning at the beards and set off with a well-defined 1/4” edge of muted gold. Beards are soft old gold. Flowers are ruffled and wide and there are plenty of buds with some show stems. Just a slight perfume.
