What keeps Ring Of Love from being just another white and violet blue plicata? It is the superbly formed flowers and the precise distribution of stalks throughout the clumps. Falls are wide, round and perfectly ruffled. It makes for a stunning clump.

Flame Out is an awesome approach to red. The red ground of the ruffled standards is washed red-black. Super wide and perfectly ruffled falls are mid red with a deeper wash. The mid gold half-moon center is plicata mottled and sanded dark red-brown, and surrounds big mid marigold beards.

PLAY WITH ZEBRAS (P. Black '25)

Talk about a zebra of a different stripe. This is one of the few broken color plicatas, and one with sterling plant habits and superbly formed flowers. White standards have a wide dark purple plicata band and closely spaced dotting over the center. Wide and ruffled falls are white with dark purple broken color segments, streaks, dotting, and sanding. Show stalks have three branches and 7-8 buds. I’m working on zebras in other colors now. What a fun project this is!

The bubbly personality of Magic is Happening is like a fine bottle of champagne. Its presence just makes you happy. It has a great combination of light blue on white plicata standards and narrow red-violet plicata banded falls. Falls are expansive, nicely flared, and have a perfect amount of ruffling. You need some time to take in this exceptional creation. Three well-spaced branches have 8-9 buds.

Oh yes, we’re a little loud and obnoxious, but also brilliantly colorful. Clear mid yellow standards are a clean contrast to falls that are dark black cherry streaking into rose tinted white bands. It certainly won’t be confused for another. White beards tipped light yellow are a perfect accent. Taller stalks have 3 branches with 9 buds.

LATE TO THE PARTY (P. Black '25)

For those in colder climates and areas subject to late frosts and freezes, a plicata being Late To The Party is a good thing. White standards have wide mid-dark purple plicata banding and sparse dotting over the center. The white of the standards accents the dark purple style arms. White falls have dark plum plicata hafts and narrow light plum plicata bands. The large mid marigold beards are an interesting accent. Overall, a very clean and exciting flower. The ground color and plicata markings are somewhat variable. Two branches plus spur carry 7-8 buds.

MEGASTAR (P. Black '25)

This was my favorite seedling out of all of the BB year seedlings. I returned repeatedly to have another look. There is such an overwhelming amount of color and patterning that one viewing isn’t enough to take it in. It is another Crocodile Smile child, which shows its importance as a parent. Warm white standards have a wide light violet plicata outer band and a wide light khaki tan sanded and lined plicata band. Style arms are contrasting dark gold. White falls have wide dark violet to dark plum lined and sanded plicata bands. Rich brown beards are the perfect accent. Three branches produce 8-9 buds.

She is all dressed up for her picture perfect moment. White ground standards have wide solid dark maroon bands and heavy overall plicata sanded centers. Interiors of the standards have white ground with plicata marks similar to falls. Broad white falls have mid red-violet sanding within wide dark maroon plicata bands. Widely spaced dark maroon lines traverse the centers. Three branches have 8-9 buds. Strong growth.

BLUEPRINT FOR SPRING (P. Black '25)

What makes this light blue bitone with falls veined darker mid-blue special? I think it is the best attempt so far to put a pink beard on a blue iris. It has been a challenge for many hybridizers. Its other special feature is the clumps filled with bloom stalks creating an overpowering display of color in the garden. To say it is floriferous is an understatement, and yet, there is plenty of increase left.

The disguise is a brilliant success. Who’d expect anything evil about this lavish blending of dark to mid purples adorned with an angelic near white beard. Super wide falls with lightly ruffled edges allow an unobstructed display of its alluring color. Minimal plicata marking of the standards at the midrib hint at its plicata heritage. Three well-spaced branches carry 9-10 buds.

Sweet fragrance Standards have an interesting blend of yellow and violet that creates a very rich brownish confection. The color reminds me of a dark cinnamon bun dripping with sweet frosting. Slight fragrance This beauty certainly reminds me of a wild disco party. Clean medium lemon-yellow standards are the perfect match for the wildly patterned falls. Falls can best be described as having a large canary yellow sunburst center. Then as we move down the petal there is a lavender to maroon wash that is then encircled with a lemon band. Slight fragrance. Done Deal is one of those Iris that has it all, great form, branching, bud count and vigor. Standards are a pearl white with pink and light salmon blended centers. Falls are a rich lavender with deep red violet signal around the beard then becoming a deeper lavender wash throughout the mid-section. Slight musky fragrance I have been working on the “pansy face” pattern, or you could say “signal” pattern in TB’s for quite a few years. Trying to get different colors in the pattern has been fun. ‘Eye Love You’ has a lot going on in the color department. Standards are a flesh to peach with large pink centers and a lavender infusion up the midrib. Falls are a light lavender with a deep maroon signal. Upon close inspection there is a very faint lighter peach band. The orange beard sitting on top of the maroon signal just makes the whole thing pop. Sweet fragrance For many years I have worked with plicatas that are the result of outcrosses to bicolors to increase vigor and bring more diversity in color and pattern. Future Dreams is named as such because of the wide-ranging breeding potential in this pattern. Standards are deep lavender purple with darker maroon veining. Falls are white with a deep maroon haft and band. If that is not enough upon closer inspection you will notice broken color within the band. A totally unique and distinctive color and pattern variation in plicatas. Flowers are well formed and carried on strong show stems with lots of buds. ‘Future Dreams’ has a good pedigree and once again shows the importance of ‘Tenacity’ as a parent both for quality and diversity. Slight fragrance Icy blue white standards. Falls are white with a wide lilac blue stitched and dotted band. Beards are red. ‘Guess What’ is a very strong grower and prolific bloomer. Well-formed flowers are carried on beautifully branched and budded stems. Really a gorgeous bloom with the overall effect being a blue plicata with a red beard. Parentage is unknown due to mixed cross tags.
