A garden favorite from its maiden bloom and has remained so. It is a great show-off in the garden with its bold contrasting colors including bright red beards. You won’t need a name tag to know what it is. From crosses I made while in Australia.

The lush velvety purple black falls will draw you in for a closer look. You’ll then notice the mid purple standard’s color repeats in a narrow fall band. Look inside and you’ll see sparkling white styles with center ridge and crest of mid lilac. It is entrancing. As with others of this type, there are loads of branching and buds to insure a long bloom season.

DIAMOND HEART (T. Johnson ’21)

Gold standards with slight violet line up the midrib. Falls are lavender purple with deep gold thumbprints on either side of brilliant tangerine beards. A brown band around the falls brings the whole pattern to life. Wide overlapping falls, an easy grower and very floriferous, Diamond Heart is a welcome addition to the early season.

ELEGANT CASHMERE (P. Black ‘20)

Ruffled pale smoky lavender blooms have soft pinkish tan spot surrounding bicolor beard of mid lavender with orange throat. Very lovely pastel.

Elegant it is. Prominent midribs of heavily ruffled white standards are flushed pink and blended outward. Hafts and edges of chalky white falls are touched pink. Strong show stalks insure it a place on the “Queen’s Court”. Fast increase and free bloom insure there’ll be plenty of them.

Yes, ‘Extreme’ ruffles and ‘Extreme’ color made this a top contender for introduction from its first bloom. Peach blooms are heavily washed dark orange giving a seductive depth of color. Huge dark orange beards grab your eye as you approach. Strong growth. Three buds on stalks with one branch.

Nicely formed SDB rebloomer. Standards of white flowers have wide mid violet plicata bands and falls have mid-violet lines from haft to edges.

FAMOUS (P. Black '21)

'‘Famous’ is a minimal plicata that is wonderfully unique. Dark mahogany standards are lightly laced and rimmed mid tan. Cream styles have mid mahogany ridge and crest centers. Dark yellow throat and hafts of falls are plicata lined and sanded black mahogany. The lower 2/3rds of fall is dark mahogany black. Big bright beards are two-toned marigold to yellow. So far it has been a difficult parent.

FINE ROMANCE (T.Johnson ‘13)

Fine Romance has just enough blue in its makeup to appear visually a very clean and clear pink in the garden. Crinkled lace adorns each petal. Beards are soft coral with just a touch of lilac at their ends. SHOW STALKS AND GORGEOUS!! Vigorous growth.

On the shorter side, GIRL LIKE YOU is a very ruffled and lightly laced rich salmon to orange self with a small white flash below fully saturated red orange beards. Nicely branched show stems are produced in profusion making quite a lovely garden show near the end of the season. Very rich and pretty!!

Heavily ruffled standards are brilliant sunshine yellow. Fall centers are light violet with wide, shaded center elipse of dark violet. Mid yellow gold haft’s color continues in pleated ruffles around falls. Beards are dark marigold. Expect about seven of these showy creations per stalk. Growth is strong, vigorous and clean. Makes a fantastic clump.

‘Hard to Resist’ has been a favorite from its maiden bloom. Gorgeous wide ruffled form showcases the striking violet blue falls with large white starburst centers. surrounding showy tangerine beards. Wonderfully branched show stalks arise from strong vigorous plants. Highly recommended for a spot in your garden that needs a little extra pizzazz.

What a crazy mixed up potpourri of color and pattern. Insaniac carries on with another variation of ‘Wild Angel’ type patterning. Flowers are fuller and more ruffled. The addition of gold edges on standards and styles makes a lovely accent. A clump of Insaniac will be a sure showstopper in your garden.

Standards are a blended pink with peach gold bands. Falls are white with a narrow light peach band. There is a slight medium peach touched haft area on either side of large powder blue beards. Wonderful wide and ruffled and even slightly laced flowers are carried on gorgeous show stems. A fantastic way to close the season. A very much admired, elegant beauty!!

Icy blue Standards. Falls blue white with deep mustard hafts that extend three quarters of the way down the petal. Beautiful powder blue beards complete the package. Three buds per stem on super floriferous showy clumps and a favorite.
