COAT OF MANY COLORS (T. Johnson ’21)
TB Mid 34” (86cm)
This iris is a very complex mix of colors and is hard to describe. I think it is best to just look at the picture. The name Coat of Many Colors seems to fit it well. Nicely branched stems and good bud count combined with lovely ruffled form make it a winner for sure. On top of all of that it is a hybridizers dream, giving some of the most awesome patterns in the seedling patch this past season. Coat of Many Colors is the product of two Barry Blyth seedlings. Recommended!!

IGNITE THE LIGHT (T. Johnson ’21)
TB Early-Mid 36” (91cm)
It has been hard for me to capture the beauty of this one in a photo. Very light yellow standards are heavily flushed deep golden yellow at the base and in the center transitioning to veining at the edge. Falls are a rich reddish brown with a lemon yellow and white blended band. A clump of this blooming in the full sun is spectacular. An excellent garden iris that is well branched, budded and floriferous.

MAGIC IN ME (B. Blyth ’21)
TB Mid-Late 37” (94cm)
This came from a cross made in Keith Keppel’s garden in Oregon by me using an American Iris as pod parent and pollen parent is from a Keppel cross made in Australia from Australian varieties and seed sent back to US and raised by Keith Keppel. The seedling which was to become Magic in Me was raised and selected in Australia and was returned to America for naming and introduction, a complete international effort! Standards are creamy lemon, faintly flushed lavender at midribs. The falls are lavender-violet with blended tan around the edges and hafts. Beards are prominent burnt tangerine. An elegant Iris that grows easily and flowers in profusion.

SAY THE WORD (T. Johnson ’21)
TB Mid 35” (89cm)
Some iris just remind me of food, perhaps it is just my insatiable appetite talking, but this one reminds me of some sort of yummy mango flavored dessert. Say the Word has very ruffled mango to peach blended standards and edge on white falls with a deep mango wash on the hafts and below the beard. A good grower and bloomer, Say the Word is a stunner; especially in full sun the color really shines. Very unique and won’t be confused with another. Gorgeous!!

SHARP DRESSED MAN (T.Johnson '10)
TB Early Midseason 36” (91cm)
He’s tall, dark and handsome and draws the eye of anyone walking by. Only the finest clothes will do for this Sharp Dressed Man. Standards are iridescent mid purple. Elegantly ruffled purple black falls have a velvety texture and slightly lighter rim. Only someone so confident could get by with such an outrageous orange tie. Show stalks with 3-4 branches and 10-12 buds help insure a superior garden performance. Robust, healthy growth. Colors are exceptionally clear.
Sdlg. TZ58A: Paul Black X Saturn. A fantastic iris that blooms heavily with show stalks galore and is consistently good year to year. Wister Medal; First runner up to the Dykes 2017.

WONDER BEARD (P. Black '21)
MTB (tet) Midseason-Late 24” (61cm)
The complex heritage of ‘Portland Pink’ made this advancement in MTBs possible. Its form is compact and lightly ruffled. The clarity of subtle gradations of pink is stunning. Light baby ribbon pink standards encase warmer pink styles. Light warm salmon pink falls are adorned with heavily saturated mid coral pink beards. Definitely a top pick for those who love pink irises. Two branches and terminal normally have 6-7 buds.

ZIG ZAG (T. Johnson ’21)

Two things immediately come to mind when I think of this flower: the brilliant beard and the wonderful wide, round and ruffled form. It could be described as a rimmed broken color plicata. A very interesting mix of several patterns in one. I have used it heavily in breeding. Zig Zag is one of many iris to be introduced out of the fantastic parent Alaia.

GARDEN PRINCE (Thomas Johnson ’22)
TB Midseason-Late 36” (91cm)
Sweet fragrance. Stately and bold probably best describes Garden Prince. Classic form on this lovely lavender-blue-purple. The hafts and style crests are touched chocolate. The fall is also bordered in a deeper violet edge. Orange beards tipped blue complete the look. Very nicely branched stems and with good bud count. An intriguing iris and one that always drew me for a closer look when walking through the seedlings.

HONOR ROLL (Thomas Johnson ’22)
TB Midseason 36” (91cm)
Sweet fragrance. Honor Roll is the fourth sister in this cross to be introduced and it has been used heavily in my hybridizing program. Palest cream standards are veined and infused light lemon and deep gold at the base. Falls are a very deep plush burgundy with a wide light lavender band that blends into a light yellow edge. Heavily ruffled parts of the petal backs show and add to the effect with multiple layers of color. Nice stems with good branching and bud count make it a winner. A very beautiful iris and a favorite for sure. Check out all the pictures of Honor Roll as the flower ages through the days the yellow pigments become more creamy white. Gorgeous either way, we love this iris and we think you will too.

Slight fragrance. There was never any doubt whether this iris would get introduced or not. The color is rich pink with orange tones and orange beards, but what makes Kissing Booth shine is its bloom habits. The last two years it bloomed heavily for an entire month. Absolutely spectacular in full flower that lasts and lasts. Lots of buds and good form on nicely branched stems. Lots of sequential stalks contribute to its long bloom season. Sdlg. FEEL THE BEAT (T. Johnson ’23)
TB Midseason 36” (91.5cm)
Sweet fragrance. Milky white standards have medium lemon centers. Falls have a large maroon signal in the center that is touched gold on either side of the beard. The signal then bleeds down the fall and transitions to a solid deep lilac and finally becoming lighter lilac, forming a band at the petal’s edge. This has been a fun iris to hybridize with for the pansy face pattern. Oddly enough it is a sister to Loving Embrace which is a salmon amoena and Brilliant Debut which is a yellow amoena. So the range of colors in this cross is amazing. Sdlg. TJ334A: Loving Embrace sib.

LOVELY LIVVY (T. Johnson ’23)
TB early-midseason 35” (89cm)
Lightly scented. LOVELY LIVVY (T. Johnson ’23) TB early-midseason 35” (89cm) Lightly scented. This gorgeous iris is named to honor the late great Olivia Newton-John. Olivia was not only a very talented celebrity but she was a gorgeous human being. Although I never met her, I certainly followed her career and life. Always a kind, warm and loving person, she never acted the celebrity, taking time to acknowledge all who came upon her. She courageously fought breast cancer in an out of remission for 20 years. Never one to complain she always looked on the positive side of things. The latter part of her life was dedicated to finding a cure for Cancer. She founded the Oliva Newton-John Cancer And Wellness Centre In Melbourne, Australia, the country she called home. Here she tirelessly raised money to support cancer research using plant-based treatments. Lovely Livvy was the pet name the media used throughout Olivia’s life to describe her. The iris we have chosen to honor her kind of named itself. Firstly, it is pink, the color of breast cancer awareness. On top of that, I made the cross in the garden of Barry and Lesley Blyth (using two of Barry’s seedlings), who live only miles from where Olivia grew up. Lovely Livvy is an extraordinary and unique creation in a color combination that has not yet been seen in iris until now. White standards are flushed pink. Falls are a deeper rose pink with a gorgeous ruffled white band. Olivia with her kind and generous heart inspired me to do my part, so I donated a portion of the proceeds of each plant sold in its introductory year (2023) to her Cancer research centre in Australia.
