Border bearded irises are no longer sulky shrinking violets. ‘Boundless Berry’ is testament to that with its robust growth and showy clumps filled with bloom stalks. Compact, heavily ruffled flowers have light warm pink blooms. Fall hafts are rouged red plum and veined cream and shade lighter to narrow warm pink bands. Big, dark sienna beards are an interesting contrast. Show stalks have 3 branches and 7-9 buds. A moderate sweet fragrance is a plus.

BUBBLY BEAUTY (P. Black ‘20)

She is the belle of the ball with her full figure draped in sumptuous pink ruffles and lace. Standards are mid pink with no trace of peach. The creamy white complexion of the falls is washed overall mid pink with darker pink texture veins. Fluffy coral pink beards coordinate well with this fine couture. She has a strong sweet perfume. Three branches provide 7-8 buds. ‘Bubbly Beauty’ is being used heavily in pursuit of blues with pink beards.

This is the closest to a dark blue amoena I’ve seen. Others have varying widths of white bands. ‘By The Sea’ does have a white wire rim which accents the blue fall. It produces many stalks on vigorous plants. Clumps create an immediate focal point in the landscape.

Sweet. Yellow ground plicata with ruby to rust red nearly solid overlay on standards and edge on falls. Very nice wide and ruffled form with huge beards. Gorgeous!!

It’s not only colorful but also has a zingy pattern. Mid yellow color of standards and styles repeats in the fall hafts. Irregular yellow veins continue over center of white falls changing to mid red violet veins inside wide brassy auburn bands. Light marigold beards are a nice complement. All petals are amply ruffled. Stalks have 3 branches and 8-9 buds. Mild sweet fragrance.

‘Crashing Whitecaps’ is a superior iris in all respects. You’ll be glad you have it in your garden when you see its clump filled with show stalks standing tall among robust clean foliage. Cool white standards and styles color is repeated across the hafts on mid violet blue falls. Mid orange beards vie for attention. Stalks have 3 branches plus spur and 9-11 buds. A sure show winner. Very light oyster pink standards with slight violet flush up the midrib. Falls are a rich, smooth and plush deep velvety purple black with narrow light lavender fall rim. Beards are a bronze color tipped violet. Wonderful strong growth with loads of buds on nice stems. Very floriferous and bold. This sweetly scented garden beauty makes a dramatic statement. Very nice!!

White ground plicata with a near solid mulberry overlay. A little bit of the white ground shows through at the base of the standards and hafts. Mulberry styles add to the effect. 4 buds make for a long bloom season.

LAVENDER BREEZE (T. Johnson ’19)

Sweetly scented. Rich lavender blue standards. Falls are lavender blue with deeper lavender veins extending to a medium lavender diffused band then encircled by a light lavender wire rim. Gorgeous full ruffled form with great stems and buds. Looks mighty fine in a clump. A good strong grower and very floriferous.

Sweet fragrance. Paloma Blanca is Spanish for white dove. Icy blue white standards and faint blended edge on white falls. Nice red orange beards are tipped blue white. Beautiful form with good lacing on the petal edges. Super clean grower with strong show stems carrying 8 buds. A very classy iris to close the season.

Sweetly scented. Blue white standards are heavily infused rose pink. Falls are rosy pink with lighter area below beards and a lavender rim. A different color combination giving a unique effect.

From the ashes rises this magnificent creation clothed in dramatic plumage. It instantly demands respect and attention when it appears. Vivid gold standards base is lined and rimmed mid auburn and repeated around upper 1/3 with wider margin banding. White veins surround dark marigold beards on red black falls. Ample rufflling gives this Phoenix an extra lift. Strong show stalks have 3 branches and 10-11 buds. A strong sweet perfume is a bonus.

From your first look, she’ll have you wound around her little finger. Shimmering light pink flowers are washed darker true pink, no peach tones at all. Intriguing light green veins ascend the standards midribs and web out over the falls. Mid pink styles stand behind darker pink beards. Strong growing clumps are filled with stalks.

Sweetly scented. Milk glass white standards are heavily infused lemon yellow in the center. Falls are a plush burgundy with a yellow sunburst flash in the center around the yellow orange beards. Very flashy and a vigorous grower with lots of bloom on strong stems carrying up to 11 buds. Nice!!

Sweet fragrance. Light yellow standards with a very narrow darker plicata stitched edge. Falls are white with a narrow purple stitched edge and short purple lines on either side of fuzzy mustard beards. Coming from parents carrying the plicata gene but not plicata themselves adds a bit more genetic diversity to the pattern. A nice clean pattern that is proving to be a garden favorite. Good growth and heavy substance flowers on strong stems carrying up to 10 buds.

Deep plum standards and edge on medium lavender-purple falls. Hafts are touched gold. Beards are lavender at the base then white and finally tipped orange creating an interesting look. A later flowering variety that is tall with very nice show stems carrying up to 10 buds. We Like!!
