Flowers, flowers everywhere! The exuberant branching and buds insure you’ll have loads of “Airy” flowers over a long time. There are 4 branches plus spur and a basal branch with 1 branch and 5 buds. It normally has at least 20 buds. Classically formed and ruffled sparkling white flowers have mid violet blue plicata band standards surrounding mid violet blue styles. Falls have a wire rim plic edging. Smaller flowers allow flowers to show without crowding. Proportion is its hallmark. Breathtaking clumps!

Border bearded irises are no longer sulky shrinking violets. ‘Boundless Berry’ is testament to that with its robust growth and showy clumps filled with bloom stalks. Compact, heavily ruffled flowers have light warm pink blooms. Fall hafts are rouged red plum and veined cream and shade lighter to narrow warm pink bands. Big, dark sienna beards are an interesting contrast. Show stalks have 3 branches and 7-9 buds. A moderate sweet fragrance is a plus.

Just lovely! The standards are cream with a yellow flush coming ¾ of the way up the mid ribs and the reverse of standards is just cream. Falls are plush burgundy with 3/16” well defined edge of soft lilac. Beards are bronze over purple giving a very dark effect. Very wide and ruffled and plenty of buds give a long bloom season.

The lush velvety purple black falls will draw you in for a closer look. You’ll then notice the mid purple standard’s color repeats in a narrow fall band. Look inside and you’ll see sparkling white styles with center ridge and crest of mid lilac. It is entrancing. Pink Standards with slight gilt edge. Falls are deep lavender purple with a light lavender edge and then encircled with a purple wire rim. Beards are a strange deep lavender with frosted hair tips. Gorgeous show stems with tons of buds ensure a long bloom season. Used heavily in hybridizing.

Very colorful with large black signal. Icy blue white standards are slightly darker in the center. Falls are a deep indigo blue purple with lighter lavender band and then a purple wire rim. Short white rays radiate out from around either side of orange beards. Large blooms on show stems on very floriferous and long blooming clumps. Very bold!!

Light lemon-yellow standards are washed and veined a darker lemon. Falls are a medium lavender blue with a dark maroon wash, deepening at the hafts. A lighter lavender fall band and center belly stripe that extends from below the beard to the petals edge completes the pattern. Super strong growth with large showy flowers on nice show stems. A longer season of bloom was also noted in the field this year.

Sweet fragrance. Creamy white standards with a very light violet plicata stitched edge and gold rim. Falls are stark white with deep violet plicata edge and haft. The beard is white at the base then violet and finally tipped orange. Very dark mustard yellow style arms provide a stark contrast. The crowning glory is the incredible show stems that are well branched and budded carrying 18 buds consistently. A very long period of bloom that starts with the early bloomers and continues into the late season. Impressive!!

No fragrance. Peach and cream blended standards. White falls with a wide red violet plicata band and thin belly stripe that extends from below the beard to distal end. Nice classic rounded form shows off the deeply contrasting dark mustard yellow style arms, creating quite a dramatic look. Strong growth and show stems with loads of buds allows for a very long season of bloom. A very good and showy garden iris.

Slight sweet fragrance. Cream standards with solid peach pink centers that radiate into peach veining towards the edges. Falls are flamingo pink with light yellow blending and tangerine beards. Very vigorous growth and an abundance of well budded stalks make for a long flowering period. Colorful and bright!!

Sweet fragrance. A very early and long blooming variety, definitely in the top ten to start the season. Marked as an introduction from its maiden bloom it has performed consistently every year. A bit hard to capture but the color is so bright in the sun it appears on fire. Beautiful full ruffled form and show stems with ample buds. Brilliant gold standards sit atop rich burgundy red falls with orange beards. A definite garden favorite.

Slight spicy fragrance. Here is another stop along the way to redder TBs. ‘Morning Show’ has shown in median breeding the ability produce quite red offspring and so I incorporated it into the TBs. ‘Last of the Wine’ is a mid and dark garnet bi-tone that leans well into red. Nicely branched and budded stalks.

STARRY STARRY NIGHT (P. Black '22)

Slight musky fragrance It is a night you’ll long remember. Classically formed, ruffled and lightly laced purple black flowers have standards with white sanded veins over their centers that show their plicata heritage. White fall hafts have closely spaced purple black lines and sanded veins transitioning to velvety purple black falls. Butterscotch beards turn to white climaxing in a white shooting star dart for a dramatic accent. It has a stunning presence even before opening. Bud reverses have chartreuse haft centers streaking into white center bands then white veins streaking into dark purple outer bands. It is an awesome look. Sturdy growth produces 4 well-spaced branches but only 7 buds. As if this wasn’t enough, it has been a mystery progenitor of many broken color plicatas. There is nothing in the parentage to suggest this trait. I’m still exploring its potential. In one cross, about a third of the seedlings looked like it, a third were standard plicata types and a third were broken color plicatas. There is much to be explored!

Slight fragrance. There was never any doubt whether this iris would get introduced or not. The color is rich pink with orange tones and orange beards, but what makes Kissing Booth shine is its bloom habits. The last two years it bloomed heavily for an entire month. Absolutely spectacular in full flower that lasts and lasts. Lots of buds and good form on nicely branched stems. Lots of sequential stalks contribute to its long bloom season. Sdlg. Sweet fragrance. Medium flesh pink standards have lavender violet centers. Falls are a rich lavender violet with flesh pink touched hafts. Beards are tangerine, tipped lavender. Final Answer has been an absolute favorite since its maiden bloom. Gorgeous wide, ruffled, and heavily laced form, on Impeccably branched and budded show stems, ensures a long bloom season. This is an iris for the more northerly gardens with its lateness it is sure to avoid any damage from late freezes. It is an amazingly fertile parent, setting pods easily. An absolute must have! Sdlg. Slight sweet fragrance. I have a bit of a love for orange amoenas and this one is no exception! Standards are cream with orange centers. Falls are a rich orange with deep red-orange beards.
