Flowers, flowers everywhere! The exuberant branching and buds insure you’ll have loads of “Airy” flowers over a long time. There are 4 branches plus spur and a basal branch with 1 branch and 5 buds. It normally has at least 20 buds. Classically formed and ruffled sparkling white flowers have mid violet blue plicata band standards surrounding mid violet blue styles. Falls have a wire rim plic edging. Smaller flowers allow flowers to show without crowding. Proportion is its hallmark. Breathtaking clumps!

There have been many Iris named in these colours, however here is one that puts on such a spectacular show, it calls for your attention. Standards are light violet, harmonizing with the richer colored red burgundy falls and beards of violet brown. Show stems both for flower quality and branching.

DRESSED TO THE NINES (T. Johnson ’19)

Lemon yellow standards over red violet falls with lavender band and slight yellow wire rim. Short white lines radiate out on either side of the yellow orange beard. With its super nice ruffled form, we have used Dressed to the Nine’s heavily in hybridizing and is an exceptional parent for form and banded patterns in lots of different colors. There will be many intros from it in the future. Nice stems with good buds complete this quality iris.

Definitely not the usual violet and white plicata. There is an interesting dialog between the redder dark plum standards and the white falls widely plicata banded mid violet blue with red plum hafts. Big golden beards end with a neat lilac shadow.

SUPER MODEL (T.Johnson '07)

She has it all, grace, charm, looks, and poise - she's a SUPER MODEL. This SUPER MODEL excels where other heavily laced violet types have failed. When she finishes blooming there is still plenty of increase left. Many visitors to the AIS convention this past year remarked on that trait. Perfectly formed medium lilac flowers are edged in heavy crinkled lace. With all this lace, SUPER MODEL still opens easily. Strong show stalks normally open two well placed flowers at once. Be the first one on your block with your own SUPER MODEL. Hopefully this will be the key to unlock the overbloom problem in this color range.

Sweet fragrance. Egg shell to light lavender standards with a narrow buff-gold ruffled rim. Milk glass white falls have a deep violet plicata band. There is a heavy concentration of violet across the hafts that forms a solid violet dart below burnt orange beards. Contrasting medium salmon style arms and a slight blush of salmon on the hafts of the falls completes the effect. A super strong grower with lovely show stems and triple bud sockets from top to bottom yields 12 or more total buds.

Slight sweet fragrance. Light yellow with faint violet dotted edge and darker yellow centers. Falls are white touched medium yellow at the hafts and a lighter yellow rim. There are also medium maroon freckle dotted hafts on either side of orange beards.

HOOCHIE COOCHIE (Thomas Johnson ’22)

Light sweet fragrance. Medium orange standards blushed violet in the midrib. Falls have a creamy pink ground. There is a lighter area around and below the beard that becomes a band of purple dotting and then finally a gold edge. Brilliant tangerine beards top it off. Phew, what a wild and bright color combo!!

QUIGLEY (Thomas Johnson ’22)

Slight fragrance. I found it quite difficult to capture the unique beauty of Quigley in a photograph. I am still not completely satisfied. The color is more vibrant than the photo shows. It is one of those that I kept coming back to admire and study its unique coloration. Really fun in full clump, sorry I missed getting a good clump shot, but there is so much happening at once in the spring and such little time. Brassy gold standards with a little white ground showing in the centers. Falls have a white ground below the beard then cinnamon dotting and a central belly stripe. A brassy gold band encircles the fall. Very different and unique.

DARK HOUR (Thomas Johnson ’22)
TB Midseason-Late 36” (91cm) Sweet fragrance. There is nothing like a well formed solid medium purple to violet iris. Dark Hour is a very strong grower with lots of beautiful show stems and a lovely sweet perfume. The blue beard really adds to the attraction. A quality garden iris!!

Sweet fragrance. Pure bright yellow standards. Falls have deep yellow hafts on either side of the beard. The bright yellow on the hafts becomes lighter towards the petal edge. There is a strong dark violet inkblot below the beard that extends to near the petal edge. Ruffled and slightly flared flowers for the late season. A very interesting and striking pattern.

Sweet fragrance. White ground standards are almost completely overlaid gold. The midrib is flushed violet. Falls are white with a deep velvet red band. There is medium red violet dotted band inside the darker band. Nicely ruffled flowers on a very bright and pleasing color combination. A nice classically ruffled form completes the look. Sdlg. GONE VIRAL (T. Johnson ’23)

Sweet fragrance. Standards are marine blue violet with a white band. Falls are a deep rich blue violet with a white edge and striping on the sides. There is a large white luminata patch around the beard and a short white dart below the beard. The hafts are touched orange which helps to draw the eye into the flower. LET ME BE THERE (T. Johnson ’23)

Sweetly scented. Let Me Be There is a WOW iris that cannot be overlooked! Standards are deep lemon yellow. Falls are white with a diffused lilac border. Hafts are touched lemon. The form and ruffles are indescribable, simple gorgeous. We have used Let Me Be There heavily in our breeding program and have been glad we did. An absolute must iris! Sdlg. Sweet fragrance. Standards are the darkest red violet with a very light rose edge. Falls are an intense shade of black mulberry with a thin light margin of light rose. There is just a touch of orange on either side of the white luminata patch. On The Cover is a very dark luminata but to the red tones of purple black where as many other dark luminatas currently on the market are to the blue tones of black. A little shorter in stature than some of the others but she certainly packs a lot of punch securing her place on the cover of the catalogue this year. Sdlg. TK22A: sister to last years intro

Light fragrance. White standards have a heavy peach pink washed center. Falls are Light orange with violet lines radiating out from below the beard. There is a wide orange band at the petal edge and within the band in the center is a large concentration of violet dots. Finally, we are starting to combine the dots and speckles pattern in a more controlled fashion instead of just random. It is also exciting to get some different colors going in the lined pattern. MEGA RUFFLES (Paul Black 23)

Slight spicy fragrance If ruffles are your delight, then you’ll be on max overload with this exuberantly ruffled beauty. Light rosy peach standards blend to wide buttery yellow bands. Velvety dark red-grape falls have darker veins and lines overall and are encased in precise, closely packed light rose-pink bands. Tan-gold beards echo the standards color. With so many ruffles, these larger flowers open easily and completely. There are two branches and only 5 buds. Buds open one at a time so each can be fully appreciated and not shorten the bloom time. Pronounced sweet fragrance The quest goes on for a white with blue beard. Each year the hope is that it will be there in the new crop of seedlings. Alas, it hasn’t been. There are beautiful creations that do happen. This beautifully formed milk-glass white has pale violet blue beards. Vigorous growth provides 2 branches and 7 buds. Sdlg. AA139A: involved parentage

FUTURISTIC (Paul Black 23)

Slight sweet fragrance As far as I know, this is the first variegated foliage SDB to be introduced. I’ve bloomed others but none good enough to introduce. ‘Futuristic’ had an interesting beginning. Bloom the first year was a mix of gray-white flowers, grayed pink flowers and some broken colored of gray and pink. Since then, most have transitioned to light gray with a light tan haft veined darker slate tan and narrowly bordered slate violet. There are very subtle light tan broken color segments. Mid old gold beards give a little life to these more somber colors. ‘Futuristic’ is fertile and can produce variegated foliage and broken color flowers but progress is slow. Sdlg. Slight fragrance. White ground standards are sanded all over with light golden yellow dotting. Falls are white with a light lilac dotted band. There is a red violet haft that spreads across the falls on either side of the burnt orange beards.
