Flowers, flowers everywhere! The exuberant branching and buds insure you’ll have loads of “Airy” flowers over a long time. There are 4 branches plus spur and a basal branch with 1 branch and 5 buds. It normally has at least 20 buds. Classically formed and ruffled sparkling white flowers have mid violet blue plicata band standards surrounding mid violet blue styles. Falls have a wire rim plic edging. Smaller flowers allow flowers to show without crowding. Proportion is its hallmark. Breathtaking clumps!

Peach pink standards. Falls are peach with a deep magenta fall wash. A peach center belly stripe starts below the beard and extends to the petal edge, then a wide lighter peach fall band with a pencil thin magenta edge, and tangerine beards complete the picture. Large round and full formed flowers make quite a statement from a distance as well as up close.

You’ve found unique with this superb, classically formed broken color variety. White blossoms have standards randomly splashed light orchid and falls randomly streaked and splashed dark to mid orchid. Show stalks have 3 branches and 7-8 buds. Untamed Glory is a novelty iris. It very consistently has six falls and no standards, but instead of going completely flat they hold in the shape of a magnolia bloom. It is very reminiscent in form of a very old cultivar by Opal Brown called Pink Magnolia. A clump of Untamed Glory will completely cover itself with these large ruffled salmon pink flowers with irregular white broken color. Definitely an iris for those who love the novelties.

Cream to flesh pink standards that are heavily infused antique to rose pink in centers. Falls are deeper flamingo to rose pink with tangerine beards. Nicely formed and ruffled flowers are carried on show stems with 11 buds early in the season. Coming out of a cross made with two Blyth seedlings. Very nice!

Sweet fragrance. White standards with slight lavender blush at base. Medium lavender blue falls with lighter wash in the center becoming deeper at the edge. Rather large bushy beards tangerine leaning towards red. Nicely formed, heavily ruffled, and lightly laced flowers are held on well branched and budded stems. Beautiful in the garden and a favorite since its maiden bloom.

Sweet fragrance. Lavender pink standards are deeper lavender in the center. Falls are a rich deep lavender blue with a heavier blue wash in the center. Beards are a burnt orange. Nice classically formed ruffled and lightly laced flowers are borne in abundance on well branched stems. Definitely for the lover of rich bicolored and laced iris.

STARRY STARRY NIGHT (P. Black '22)

Slight musky fragrance It is a night you’ll long remember. Classically formed, ruffled and lightly laced purple black flowers have standards with white sanded veins over their centers that show their plicata heritage. White fall hafts have closely spaced purple black lines and sanded veins transitioning to velvety purple black falls. Butterscotch beards turn to white climaxing in a white shooting star dart for a dramatic accent. It has a stunning presence even before opening. Bud reverses have chartreuse haft centers streaking into white center bands then white veins streaking into dark purple outer bands. It is an awesome look. Sturdy growth produces 4 well-spaced branches but only 7 buds. As if this wasn’t enough, it has been a mystery progenitor of many broken color plicatas. There is nothing in the parentage to suggest this trait. I’m still exploring its potential. In one cross, about a third of the seedlings looked like it, a third were standard plicata types and a third were broken color plicatas. There is much to be explored!

Pronounced sweet fragrance Oh YES, I really like this one. Be sure to take in the lovely, nuanced colors. Tight classically formed flowers have waxen substance and sheen. Lightly laced red brown standards blend to wide dark mulberry bands, a very interesting color transition. Narrow crinkle laced black cherry falls are touched with white dotting. The white chevron around the multi-layered beard is heavily mottled mid black cherry. Three layered beards are white to dark purple and tipped old gold. Strong, disease resistant foliage. This is a color combination I am a bit of a sucker for. Brilliant bright yellow standards that are exceptionally clean are held over light to medium lavender falls. The falls have deeper texture veins that run the length of the petals and the hafts are touched yellow. Strong stems on large classically formed flowers. Sweet fragrance. White ground standards are almost completely overlaid gold. The midrib is flushed violet. Falls are white with a deep velvet red band. There is medium red violet dotted band inside the darker band. Nicely ruffled flowers on a very bright and pleasing color combination. A nice classically ruffled form completes the look. Sdlg. Lightly scented. LOVELY LIVVY (T. Johnson ’23) TB early-midseason 35” (89cm) Lightly scented. This gorgeous iris is named to honor the late great Olivia Newton-John. Olivia was not only a very talented celebrity but she was a gorgeous human being. Although I never met her, I certainly followed her career and life. Always a kind, warm and loving person, she never acted the celebrity, taking time to acknowledge all who came upon her. She courageously fought breast cancer in an out of remission for 20 years. Never one to complain she always looked on the positive side of things. The latter part of her life was dedicated to finding a cure for Cancer. She founded the Oliva Newton-John Cancer And Wellness Centre In Melbourne, Australia, the country she called home. Here she tirelessly raised money to support cancer research using plant-based treatments. Lovely Livvy was the pet name the media used throughout Olivia’s life to describe her. The iris we have chosen to honor her kind of named itself. Firstly, it is pink, the color of breast cancer awareness. On top of that, I made the cross in the garden of Barry and Lesley Blyth (using two of Barry’s seedlings), who live only miles from where Olivia grew up. Lovely Livvy is an extraordinary and unique creation in a color combination that has not yet been seen in iris until now. White standards are flushed pink. Falls are a deeper rose pink with a gorgeous ruffled white band. Olivia with her kind and generous heart inspired me to do my part, so I donated a portion of the proceeds of each plant sold in its introductory year (2023) to her Cancer research centre in Australia. No fragrance It takes center stage with one of the most dramatically unique flowers. Standards and falls are both a study in color and pattern. Light buffy tan blended standards are widely banded with fine dark plum filigree. Old gold style crests striped dark brown emerge from between them. White falls are a puzzle of purple black veins and sanding overall becoming darker and more closely spaced toward edges. White stitching on reverses adds more distinction. It makes one of the finest clumps with masses of classically formed flowers that last for days from iron like substance. Standards are light buffy pink and styles mid buffy pink. Mid buffy pink falls are washed old rose becoming darker toward edges. Hafts are veined dark old rose as are lines overall. Flaming dark orange beards complete the piper’s act.
