I have a bit of a fascination for beards especially on the SDBs. In my opinion the beard can make or break the flower. The large blue frosted beards on this canary yellow self definitely “make” the blooms on Hit the Jackpot. The white patch under and around the beard only adds to the contrast. Startling and beautiful in clump!!

Brilliant golden yellow Standards. Falls are oxblood red with a wide mustard gold band and then a red wire edge. Extremely bright, almost shocking color combination! Very early to bloom on good stems with 8 buds. The falls remind me more of the spot pattern found in SDBs. FUN!!

Icy blue white standards are slightly darker in the center. Falls are a deep indigo blue purple with lighter lavender band and then a purple wire rim. Short white rays radiate out from around either side of orange beards. Large blooms on show stems on very floriferous and long blooming clumps. Very bold!!

Slight sweet fragrance. I have a bit of a love for orange amoenas and this one is no exception! Standards are cream with orange centers. Falls are a rich orange with deep red-orange beards. Pronounced sweet fragrance Such joyful colors say come on and celebrate when it is in bloom. Tightly constructed blooms have pale blue-white standards flushed light lilac up midribs. Slight fragrance. This iris has fascinated me since its maiden bloom. The pattern is different especially for a horned variety. Standards and styles are a medium coral pink. Flaring falls are like a zebra. Is it medium orchid violet with pink veins or deep pink with medium orchid violet veins? The falls also have a defined narrow band of pink-orchid. Slight musky fragrance This later blooming pink ground plicata avoids the winter damage that plagued so many earlier ones of this type. Ruffled standards are mid pink blending to mid apricot edges. Mid coral styles echo these warmer colors. Light pink falls have white luminata type patches lined mid plum. Narrow ruffled red-plum plicata bands encircle the expansive falls. Slight fragrance. Total surprise indeed is what happened when this one first bloomed. Certainly not what I was expecting, but happy for sure. White standards have a yellow blush to them. Falls are rust to red with a white spray pattern around the beard and a light lavender to white band.
