PUERTO VALLARTA (T. Johnson ’21)

Puerto Vallarta the iris kind of reminds me of the beautiful sunsets over the ocean on the beach in Puerto Vallarta, thus the name. Brilliant golden yellow standards. Falls have dark yellow hafts that blend to a lighter lemon wash and finally deepening to a mustard yellow edge. Salmon shadings are deeper at the haft becoming a blended wash inside the yellow edge. There is also a large white patch below the intensely saturated yellow/orange beards. A very consistent garden performer with show stems and 9 buds. An easy and strong grower that really adds a bright spot of color in the garden. Super!!

Yes, it will always be a puzzle as to what the parentage is since the tag was lost. ‘Puzzled’ is such a unique creation that most people won’t care. Standards are buttery peach with orangish texture veins. Wide and ruffled falls are an interesting irregular maroon wash over light lavender ground blending lighter toward edges. Beards are dark orange. Show stalks have ample buds. Growth is strong and increase abundant.

Light lemon-yellow infused pink standards, flushed heavier in the centers. Lavender and rose blended falls with deeper texture veins and lemon buff edge. Large gorgeous ruffled form. Not a color for everyone but one that I love and look forward to seeing each year. Definitely unique!

The super clean white falls are the perfect contrast for tangerine beards. A clump of Reach the Stars is memorable to say the least!!

From the ashes rises this magnificent creation clothed in dramatic plumage. It instantly demands respect and attention when it appears. Vivid gold standards base is lined and rimmed mid auburn and repeated around upper 1/3 with wider margin banding. White veins surround dark marigold beards on red black falls. Ample rufflling gives this Phoenix an extra lift. Strong show stalks have 3 branches and 10-11 buds. A strong sweet perfume is a bonus.

Medium grape standards and edge on deep violet falls. Flowers are large, full and beautifully ruffled. A very nice addition to the purple iris palette. The strange rust to almost brown beards add a bit of mystery. Very classy indeed!!

Some iris just remind me of food, perhaps it is just my insatiable appetite talking, but this one reminds me of some sort of yummy mango flavored dessert. Say the Word has very ruffled mango to peach blended standards and edge on white falls with a deep mango wash on the hafts and below the beard. A good grower and bloomer, Say the Word is a stunner; especially in full sun the color really shines. Very unique and won’t be confused with another. Gorgeous!!

You’ve found unique with this superb, classically formed broken color variety. White blossoms have standards randomly splashed light orchid and falls randomly streaked and splashed dark to mid orchid. Show stalks have 3 branches and 7-8 buds. ‘Sergey’ is an unsually gorgeous and subtle blue and yellow blended bicolor that was much admired at the 2015 AIS convention. It has wonderful form, growth, buds and stem. It is Being used heavily in breeding. Named in honor of our friend, Sergey Loktev, who has been a great advocate of irises and a frequent garden visitor from Russia.

Sweetly scented. Milk glass white standards are heavily infused lemon yellow in the center. Falls are a plush burgundy with a yellow sunburst flash in the center around the yellow orange beards. Very flashy and a vigorous grower with lots of bloom on strong stems carrying up to 11 buds. Nice!!
