Sweet fragrance. This is one of the first broken color plicatas. Subsequent generations indicate it is an inheritable trait, so let the breeding begin. Nothing in the parentage indicates the possibility of broken color. About 1/3 of the seedlings from this cross were plicatas, about 1/3 were selfs, and about 1/3 were broken color plicatas. Well-branched stalks have 2 branches and a spur producing 7-9 blooms. Vigorous growth provides quick clumps. Intriguing to see each flower marked differently. Sdlg. Sweet fragrance. This taller sibling of ‘Make Up Your Mind’ is a very handsome traditional plicata in a lovely cornflower blue shade. It adds one more branch and a complement of 9-10 buds on show stalks. It too is a strong clean grower. Standards are a near solid cornflower blue with a buff wire edge. Sweet fragrance. This vigorous and hardy yellow ground plicata comes from very different breeding. It produces consistent show stalks that are at home in the garden or on the show bench. Plicata markings are somewhat variable from one year to the next. Use it to breed for better plicata winter hardiness. Sldg. This one is a bit hard to describe. Standards are a lovely blended lavender with medium burnt orange centers transitioning to orange veins as they move toward the edge. Falls are a complex blend of colors that appear as a deep burnt orange to red creating a very lovely and distinctive color. Great branching and stems carry well-formed flowers that are a true delight. Coming from the beautifully colored and formed Shockaholic. Challenge Accepted is a nice advancement in this color pattern.

Another child from the great Hard To Resist. Very light icy blue white standards have a slightly darker bluish rim. Falls are pristine white with a deep lavender blue band and shocking red beards. Very nice stems and buds on this well formed beauty.

I have been working with Shockaholic as a parent, trying to put a really nice stem on intensely colored patterns involving orange. This one certainly makes the mark. Standards have pink centers that transition to peach. Falls are a vibrant medium orange. Great stems carry nicely ruffled and very elegant flowers. Such a lovely medley of colors!

Deep golden yellow standards have a maroon flush in the center. Falls are deep gold with a large deep maroon spot in the center. I love this iris, such a dramatic and eye-catching pattern on a really solid garden plant.

Quite an intensely colored iris. Standards are solid deep black cherry to near black. Falls are cream with a lemon wash on either side of the beard extending down to the wide black cherry-red dotted band. Very showy in the fields this last year, making quite a statement at the end of its row.

One could call this a reverse pink amoena. Medium pink standards rise above cream falls with medium pink hafts. Loved One has lots of bubbly ruffles with good buds and branching. It is a very prolific grower and bloomer as well. A really nice eye-catching and clear pink.

Oh Far Out is what I say each year when I approach this iris. The intensity of the gold is so bright, it is amazing!! Brilliant golden yellow flowers have a wide and precise maroon red band and lighter rim on the falls. An absolutely stunning iris in a clump!! Strong show stems are in abundance. Recommended for those who are looking for an iris to make a statement.

This is one of the few variegated foliage SDBs. It also has a hint of broken color in the center of the mid purple falls. Standards are mid mauve. Foliage is streaked green and cream. It is not totally stable. There will be some reversion to all-green foliage. Always cut the all-green plants out.

This kitty looks more like it is ready to go partying rather than cozy up at home. Falls on light pink flowers with mid pink styles have mid red-purple lined and sanded hafts and center stripes. Beards are flaming neon coral pink. Makes a joyful clump. Another interesting parentage.
