Sweet fragrance. This vigorous and hardy yellow ground plicata comes from very different breeding. It produces consistent show stalks that are at home in the garden or on the show bench. This one is a bit hard to describe. Standards are a lovely blended lavender with medium burnt orange centers transitioning to orange veins as they move toward the edge. Falls are a complex blend of colors that appear as a deep burnt orange to red creating a very lovely and distinctive color. Great branching and stems carry well-formed flowers that are a true delight. Coming from the beautifully colored and formed Shockaholic. Challenge Accepted is a nice advancement in this color pattern.

Standards are blue white with darker centers infused pink. Falls are a rich rosy pink with a very light lavender band. A really beautiful color combination, and one that has been popular with visitors. Nice buds, stems, and growth certainly add to the attraction.

White standards have a touch of lemon at the base. Falls are maroon to red with a white rim, and a light yellow area around the beard. The flowers are heavily ruffled. A TB that is a little on the shorter side, for the front of the border, and certainly one for those who love ruffles.

Ooh la la! Look at that form!!! Truly, a stunning iris. Such a gorgeous shade of strawberry pink, with a lighter area below the awesome pink beard. Impeccable form in a beautiful color. Great stems and buds round it out. Probably one of the most, if not the most, gorgeous individual iris flowers I have seen. Its only flaw is that it is a very late flowering variety that does not like opening in extreme heat. A favorite from its maiden bloom, and one I can hardly wait to see flower each year.

HEARD A RUMOR (T. Johnson ’25)

I have been working with Shockaholic as a parent, trying to put a really nice stem on intensely colored patterns involving orange. This one certainly makes the mark. Standards have pink centers that transition to peach. Falls are a vibrant medium orange. Great stems carry nicely ruffled and very elegant flowers. Such a lovely medley of colors!

Light yellow petals, with a near solid purple overlay on the falls, accentuated by a light yellow area below the beard and a gold band. One of my favorites for this year, absolutely stunning in a clump.

Medium lavender to blue standards are flushed ecru to green in the center. Falls are a rich mahogany to red with a narrow lighter edge. It is stunning in a clump, with masses of vibrant bicolor flowers. Sister to last year’s Flip A Coin.

One could call this a reverse pink amoena. Medium pink standards rise above cream falls with medium pink hafts. Loved One has lots of bubbly ruffles with good buds and branching. It is a very prolific grower and bloomer as well. A really nice eye-catching and clear pink.

Deep old gold standards are held over rich violet blue falls with reddish tones blended towards the edge. The flowers are large and extremely wide petalled creating a very full form. The lightly ruffled petals really help to show off the clean and sharp bicolor pattern. Nice stems, buds and growth make Power a really solid addition to the garden.

Gold Ripples is one of the most vigorous and floriferous SDBs in the garden. Beautifully ruffled dark slate gold flowers are minimally plicata marked dark brown. Mid marigold beards brighten this more subtle flower.
