This is one of the few variegated foliage SDBs. It also has a hint of broken color in the center of the mid purple falls. Standards are mid mauve. Foliage is streaked green and cream. It is not totally stable. There will be some reversion to all-green foliage. Always cut the all-green plants out.

COZY KITTY (P. Black '25)
SDB Midseason-late 13” (33cm) No fragrance.
This kitty looks more like it is ready to go partying rather than cozy up at home. Falls on light pink flowers with mid pink styles have mid red-purple lined and sanded hafts and center stripes. Beards are flaming neon coral pink. Makes a joyful clump. Another interesting parentage.

TWIZZLER (P. Black '25)
MDB Early-midseason 7” (18cm) No fragrance.
This small guy has caramel tan standards with interior mid slate wine plicata markings. Very round falls have light caramel tan ground with dark slate wine lines, plicata dotting, and dappling. Mid-dark tangerine beards glow from the heart.

CHANGE OF HABIT (P. Black '25)
MTB (tet) Midseason-late 23” (58.5cm) Slight spicy fragrance.
It is easy to make a habit of this well-formed light silvery blue-violet and dark purple bitone with neat two-tone beards. Show stalks have three branches plus two spurs and 10-11 buds. Makes a lovely clump. Another very interesting parentage.

GHOSTLY APPARITION (P. Black '25)

It is similar to the tall bearded ‘ghost plicatas’. White standards have wide mid blue-violet plicata bands and random dotting over centers. White ground falls have mid blue-violet plicata hafts, variable light blue-violet distal wash, and narrow mid blue-violet stitched band. Fascinating beards are half tangerine and white.

WITCHES STITCHES (P. Black '25)
TB Midseason-late 32” (81.5cm) Slight sweet fragrance.
Glinda the Good Witch put her magic to work and created this enchanted plicata that has only a stitched band around the falls. Usually there is another color, sanding, or plicata marks. Standards are white with light violet-blue stitched plicata bands, but with lighter violet-blue shading in between. Falls are white with wide dark violet stitched plicata bands. Widely spaced greenish texture veins traverse the center. Stalks have three branches and 9-11 buds.

BALLROOM GOWN (Thomas Johnson ’26)
TB Early-midseason 39” (99cm) Sweet fragrance.
It is difficult to find the words to describe this one; the picture kind of says it all. Incredible form and with heavy substance, this stately luminata is characterized with a very wide rim on the standards. Intensely ruffled falls have a huge showy central luminata patch. At 39 inches, it is very tall for this pattern, which has tended to be on the shorter side. Show stems that can carry up to three branches, and spurs even on the branches, provide lots of buds for an extended bloom season. EXACTLY RIGHT (Thomas Johnson ’26)

Near white standards have a clear light pink central infusion up the midrib. Falls are a very clean and clear pink with a lighter area below the coral orange beards. IGUAZU FALLS (Thomas Johnson ’26)

Named for the truly breathtaking waterfalls that sit on the border of Argentina with Brazil and Paraguay. Medium royal purple standards are wrapped in a wide near white band. Falls are medium royal purple, with a very large light pink to white luminata patch and wide lavender band. AT LAST MY LOVE (Paul Black 26)
SDB Late-very late 14.5” (37cm) Pronounced sweet fragrance.
For those wanting a SDB to enter in a typical TB show, here is another one of my multiple branched and budded, late blooming SDBs that fits the bill. Light rose infuses up the midribs of the mid lilac standards. Falls are mid red-violet, blending lighter to their edge. Big orange beards are sandwiched between white hafts veined dark plum. INDIGO BRIM (Thomas Johnson ’26)

Icy blue white standards are slightly darker at the edge. Falls are icy blue white, with a deep indigo band and yellow haft. This has the classic ‘Emma Cook’ pattern, but with a much deeper band than usual, and an unusual yellow haft. The band appears near black to the eye from across the garden. Sdlg. LA LA PALOOZA (Paul Black 26)

Its medley of color will certainly make you take notice. The light grayed violet infused mid brass color of the standards is repeated in a narrow band around the wide falls. Yes, it is consistent, and it’s been a favorite with visitors!! Standards are full lemon yellow, and styles are yellow. Falls are lemon yellow, with a cream center, and an old gold border. Lucky Ticket is nearly a pure orange amoena, and it shows as such in the field. It is only on closer inspection that one notices the pink flush up the standards. Medium pink standards rise above very light creamy white falls with a slight pink flush and deeper pink hafts.
