I have been working with Shockaholic as a parent, trying to put a really nice stem on intensely colored patterns involving orange. This one certainly makes the mark. Standards have pink centers that transition to peach. Falls are a vibrant medium orange. Great stems carry nicely ruffled and very elegant flowers. Such a lovely medley of colors!

HIGH WIRE ACT (T. Johnson ’25)

High Wire Act is such a beautiful iris, especially in a clump where it really shines, showing off its beautiful gold rim. Standards are cream with very faint gold veining in the center and a violet line up the midrib. The wide ruffled gold band really catches the eye. Falls are white, with a very wide rust red dotted band and white wire rim. A violet line down the center of the petal, from below the beard to the petal’s edge, adds another dimension of intrigue.

IN GOOD COMPANY (T. Johnson ’25)

In Good Company is a somewhat different color combination that is quite bright and striking. Standards have violet centers, becoming buff with yellow highlights at the edge. Falls are a rich and vibrant deep golden yellow. Nicely ruffled flowers are held on tall and stately stems.

Standards are a blended lavender violet with yellow in the centers and a buff yellow band. Falls are creamy white with slight lavender highlights throughout and a wide showy golden yellow band. Just Released has beautiful ruffled form and is a lovely iris coming from two great parents.

NEVER ENDING STORY (T. Johnson ’25)

Very light lemon to cream standards have darker lemon centers. Falls are a deep red violet with a small yellow area around the beard. There is a bit of bluish violet blending below the beard, and a wide heavily ruffled and blended yellow band. Never Ending Story has gorgeous classical form with heavy ruffles on nice stems. A really lovely iris!

Deep old gold standards are held over rich violet blue falls with reddish tones blended towards the edge. The flowers are large and extremely wide petalled creating a very full form. The lightly ruffled petals really help to show off the clean and sharp bicolor pattern. Nice stems, buds and growth make Power a really solid addition to the garden.

Lemon yellow standards rise above very complex patterned falls. There is a yellow flash around the beard, then a reddish band at the haft that becomes a blue violet wash. The pattern then transitions to a lavender band, and finally a lemon band. Quite a busy little thing, but also very showy. Gorgeous ruffled form and nice stems are the norm.

Brilliant golden yellow standards are echoed in the yellow hafts surrounding the orange beard on violet blue falls with a ruffled darker band. Super form, branching and bud count, and a favorite. Goddess Of The Rainbow received an EC in 2024 and won Best Seedling of the 2024 OTIS Show.

BEYOND FABULOUS (P. Black '25)

An abundance of ruffles, pleasing color contrasts, and all-around great garden performance make Beyond Fabulous a prime candidate for your garden. Light grayed cantaloupe centers blend to very wide pale icy blue-white bands. Dark blended dark purple falls have white hafts heavily lined and sanded dark maroon and are finished with medium wide icy white streaked bands. Two-toned beards are mid marigold, ending in light violet. Three branches provide 8-9 buds. Strong growth.

I’ll leave it to you to figure out which Betty and where the bounce is. Is it in her footsteps? She is elegantly appealing. Ruffled icy white standards echo the interesting white falls that are delicately washed pale blue to several shades darker toward their edges. Statuesque stalks can have 4 branches with 11-12 buds. The name was inspired by our young iris enthusiast friend Dylan Just. If you have ever seen his lively inspiring iris videos, you will certainly recognize the phrase “are you kidding me” as his signature punchline. It is a very fitting name, and very descriptive of the way I myself felt the year it first bloomed. It comes from the line of unique iris that have been coined the ‘pansy face’ pattern. I love everything about this iris, from its lavender standards with maroon base, to its wide and ruffled falls with deep maroon central overlay. It is difficult to find the words to describe this one; the picture kind of says it all. Incredible form and with heavy substance, this stately luminata is characterized with a very wide rim on the standards. Intensely ruffled falls have a huge showy central luminata patch. At 39 inches, it is very tall for this pattern, which has tended to be on the shorter side. Show stems that can carry up to three branches, and spurs even on the branches, provide lots of buds for an extended bloom season. Steely blue white standards have a deep mustard central spot. Falls are icy white, with light lemon texture veins, and a deep mustard haft.
