Standards creamy parchment veined gold, darker at edges, amber-maize at bottom of midribs; style arms light old gold, red blush along midribs; falls golden yellow edges veined red, red wash, some red dotting bleeding out from signal, signal large oval shaped burgundy-black, recurved; beard hairs based light yellow, tips golden brown, chevron shaped.

He’s tall, dark and handsome and draws the eye of anyone walking by. Only the finest clothes will do for this Sharp Dressed Man. Standards are iridescent mid purple. Elegantly ruffled purple black falls have a velvety texture and slightly lighter rim. Only someone so confident could get by with such an outrageous orange tie. Show stalks with 3-4 branches and 10-12 buds help insure a superior garden performance. Robust, healthy growth. Colors are exceptionally clear.

Light pink standards are overlaid light orange and have deeper orange veins in center and peach band. Falls are a rich deep burnt orange with fully saturated tangerine beards. I wish the branching was a bit wider and the stems a bit taller but the color is dynamite, simply nothing like it!! Always stops visitors to the garden in their tracks!

Smooth black cherry standards over deeper black cherry falls with fully saturated tangerine orange beards. The clarity and smoothness of the color is very clean and crisp looking in the garden. She has it all, grace, charm, looks, and poise - she's a SUPER MODEL. This SUPER MODEL excels where other heavily laced violet types have failed. When she finishes blooming there is still plenty of increase left. Many visitors to the AIS convention this past year remarked on that trait. Perfectly formed medium lilac flowers are edged in heavy crinkled lace. With all this lace, SUPER MODEL still opens easily. Strong show stalks normally open two well placed flowers at once. Be the first one on your block with your own SUPER MODEL. Hopefully this will be the key to unlock the overbloom problem in this color range.

There are plenty of ruffles on this smooth bicolor. Smoky pink standards are heavily infused royal purple. Very wide and ruffed falls are velvety deep royal purple with a lighter band. Strong stalks carry 8 to 11 buds.

A difficult blending of colors to describe. Standards are eggshell white with opal pink blushed centers. Falls are Lavender with an eggshell rim. What really sets this off is the beard. The beard is violet with orange hair tips becoming more solid dark blue to violet at the end. Gorgeous form on nice show stems compete the effect. We love this iris!!

TROPICAL BREEZE (T. Johnson ’20)

Standards are flesh pink with peach edges. Falls are flushed slightly lighter flesh pink with a wide blended peach band. Beards are kind of a strange mango peach. A very different and very pretty color combination.

Untamed Glory is a novelty iris. It very consistently has six falls and no standards, but instead of going completely flat they hold in the shape of a magnolia bloom. It is very reminiscent in form of a very old cultivar by Opal Brown called Pink Magnolia. A clump of Untamed Glory will completely cover itself with these large ruffled salmon pink flowers with irregular white broken color. Definitely an iris for those who love the novelties.

A lovely clean and ruffled bicolor iris. Standards are icy white with light lemon highlights especially shot up the midrib. Falls are a plush burgundy with nice wide and precise lavender bands and a darker wire rim. Nice orange beards contrast nicely with the plush burgundy falls. A favorite and used a lot in hybridizing.

‘Wild Streak’ is notable for its color saturation. Buff peach standards have rather large random irregular mid lilac segments. Pale peach falls with darker peach hafts and edges have dark to mid grape irregular splashes, streaks and solid segments. Strong, vigorous growth produces stalks with 3 branches and 7-8 buds.

Apricot to salmon pink standards with a rosy lavender flush up the midrib. Falls are a rich magenta rose that is very clean with a nice ruffled edge and red orange beards. Wrap Her Up is a very clean bicolor and we think much prettier than the photo depicts. With very pretty show stems, Wrap Her Up makes a very elegant show near the end of the season.

Here’s another of my genetic broken color types with strong growth and well- branched and budded stalks. Mid mulberry standards have limited random palest violet splashes. Falls have random streaks and splashes of mid mulberry and palest violet. Hafts are streaked plum and tan. Flowers are nicely ruffled and have a sweet fragrance. Show stalks have 2-3 branches and 7-9 buds. A more subtle broken color.

ZIG ZAG (T. Johnson ’21)

Two things immediately come to mind when I think of this flower: the brilliant beard and the wonderful wide, round and ruffled form. It could be described as a rimmed broken color plicata. A very interesting mix of several patterns in one. I have used it heavily in breeding. Zig Zag is one of many iris to be introduced out of the fantastic parent Alaia.

ZIP ZING ZOWIE (P. Black '21)

Your head spins round with the whirlwind of colors of this broken color type. White standards are randomly splashed light lilac and tan. Fall centers are white blended outward to mid yellow and narrowly edged white and then randomly streaked, splashed, veined and mottled varying shades of vibrant red plum. You won’t miss seeing these wildly colorful flowers. Three well-spaced branches produce 7-8 buds.

HOOCHIE COOCHIE (Thomas Johnson ’22)

Light sweet fragrance. Medium orange standards blushed violet in the midrib. Falls have a creamy pink ground. There is a lighter area around and below the beard that becomes a band of purple dotting and then finally a gold edge. Brilliant tangerine beards top it off. Phew, what a wild and bright color combo!!
