How about two thumbs up for visual impact in the landscape! Standards and styles are bright mid gold. A wide lighter tan gold blended band surrounds ruffled mid-dark mahogany falls. White hafts are veined dark mahogany. Beards are marigold. Stalks have 3 branches and 7-9 buds. Interesting plicata heritage. Strong growth.

This exuberant IB has rampant growth and explodes with color from all the flowers. Pale peach styles peek out from mid purple standards. Dark purple falls have light peach luminata patches surrounding vivid orange beards. Falls have irregular light peach broken color streaks. Two branches plus spur provide 7 buds and a very long bloom season. Fertile IB.

I DREAMED A DREAM (P. Black ‘20)

And the dream is a very late blooming SDB with multiple branches spaced to allow all flowers to open freely. It’s now reality. Iridescent mid purple standards shine above purple black falls with white rays around burnt orange beards. Two branches plus spur have 6-7 buds. Excellent parent.

I'M BACK (T.Johnson '07)

I'M BACK sets a new standard for form and color in reblooming irises. Not only will you love seeing it the first time, you'll long for it to return, and it will. Standards are medium lilac with rich dusty rose centers and along upper margins which are covered with a fine network of burgundy veins. Styles are dusty rose with crests veined dark burgundy. Falls are velvety black-cherry with paler rims and adorned with dark root beer beards. Each flower is well-formed and elegantly ruffled.

It’s much more fun to be a little wild and crazy and a bit mixed up. This broken color type will liven up your garden. Pale buff pink standards are randomly splashed mid lilac. Mid peach style crests are streaked lilac. Mid buff peach falls are randomly streaked from dark purple to light red purple. Hafts can be mid pink to butter. Each flower is different. Strong growth provides stalks with 2-3 branches and 7-9 buds. If you check out the second photo the color is not quite right but it shows the form so much better.

How about an alluring update on the perennial favorite ‘Jungle Shadows’? It isn’t as dark and brooding as ‘Jungle Shadows’ but it still possesses that mysterious ambiance. ‘KISS THE FROG’ is part of my program to create green/turquoise BBs and TBs.

Definitely not the usual violet and white plicata. There is an interesting dialog between the redder dark plum standards and the white falls widely plicata banded mid violet blue with red plum hafts. Big golden beards end with a neat lilac shadow.

LITTLE BAND OF GOLD (P. Black ‘20)

Nothing else like it! It was a favorite from its first bloom. Mid sulfur yellow standards are blushed orange. Mid orange falls are narrowly banded bright yellow and set ablaze with big red orange beards.

The result of this trip is a simply formed, demure flower with mid pink standards and peach falls with tangerine pink beards. Stalks with 2 branches and 2 spurs produce 8-9 buds. Very pretty.

MERRY MULBERRY (P. Black ‘19)

Many lovely BBs are coming from tetraploid MTB, SDB and IB breeding and this is one with exceptional quality. Ruffled, classically formed blooms are rose mulberry bitone with buff area around tangerine beards. Strong show stalks have 3 branches plus 2 spurs with 12-14 buds. A must have for showing or in the garden.

MOUSE THAT ROARED (P. Black '21)

It may be small, but it has a big impact in a clump. It is another variation on a plicata theme reaching back to ‘Ghost Ship’. It is a luminata but not in the traditional TB style luminatas by having darker fall veins rather than lighter. The upper half of white standards are shaded mid slate purple with butter edges. Startling white styles peak out from between them. Falls have bright yellow throats blended to white then washed light to mid violet to edges. Chlorophyl lines streak alongside beards turning to mid violet and darkening to edges.

Such beauty is exhibited by this pristine white glaciata with lime lines over standards. Falls have light yellow hafts and silvery texture veins. Orange to white beards are a nice splash of color.
