Light sweet fragrance. Light lemon standards have dark lemon centers extending to deep lemon veining to petal edge. Falls are a rich dark maroon with a slightly lighter area around the beard and then a light cherry rose band surrounds the petal. Nicely ruffled and branched with good clean color contrast. Sdlg. Sweet fragrance. Deep lemon-yellow standards with a lighter edge. Falls are a rust to burgundy with a white rayed pattern extending out from around the beard. The falls are then banded with a wide lemon border and then etched by a thin red line. This Is Crazy is breathtakingly beautiful in clump. UNDER PRESSURE (T. Johnson ’23)

Sweet fragrance. Under Pressure is another iris that was labeled as an intro from maiden bloom. It never ceases to perform and has good stems and buds as well. Bright yellow standards. The falls are a bit complicated. There is a yellow sunburst in the center that is bordered with a diffused wash of red violet. Then the violet transitions to lavender and finally a very light yellow rim with a violet wire edge. Sdlg. TK170C: Dare To Be Different and This Is Crazy sib.

HOT WIRED (L. Miller ’23)

Light fragrance. Not just another plicata! Standards are mostly solid rich maroon with slight undertones of apricot in the center. The lacey edges of the very dark apricot styles are trimmed in maroon. Flaring falls have apricot-peach ground bordered by a solid maroon edge that turns to dots as it extends from the burnt dark orange beards. 9 to 10 buds on well branched stalks. MONET PAINTING (L. Miller ’23)

Light sweet fragrance. The markings and color of this iris remind me of a fine Monet painting. Standards are bordered dark apricot diffusing to medium plum purple in the center. The dark apricot styles are tinted purple and are fringed. Falls have wide borders of plum purple that streaks into the medium apricot center. Extending from the dark tangerine beards are plum purple belly stripes. Great stalks with three branches support 9-13 buds. 5217A: Hot Wired sib.

PERKY LASS (L. Miller ’23)

Slight sweet fragrance. As I work toward pink ground plicatas interesting combos are happening. The standards of Perky Lass are light pinkish salmon, lightly washed light violet. Falls are pinkish-salmon bordered with heavy maroon dotting, heaviest beside striking dark tangerine beards. 7 to 8 buds are held on show stalks. Sdlg. 5817C: 9813A, Lost cross X Powder Keg.

SHEER MADNESS (B. Blyth ’23)

Musky fragrance. Standards have lilac blue centers that are bordered in reddish violet plicata dotting. Falls have a light-yellow ground that is overlaid with light red around beard, then the ground color becomes a dark yellow that is overlaid with a dark red wash to the petal edge. A very complex color combination that is very pretty and unique. Sdlg. X213-AA:

Slight sweet fragrance As far as I know, this is the first variegated foliage SDB to be introduced. I’ve bloomed others but none good enough to introduce. ‘Futuristic’ had an interesting beginning. Bloom the first year was a mix of gray-white flowers, grayed pink flowers and some broken colored of gray and pink. Since then, most have transitioned to light gray with a light tan haft veined darker slate tan and narrowly bordered slate violet. There are very subtle light tan broken color segments. Mid old gold beards give a little life to these more somber colors. ‘Futuristic’ is fertile and can produce variegated foliage and broken color flowers but progress is slow. Sdlg. Pronounced sweet fragrance It is all about color for this little guy. Vivid mid yellow standards and styles beam above light buff falls with hafts heavily plic lined and sanded mid wine as well as narrow plic bands and darts at ends of bright orange beards. Slight sweet fragrance Interestingly, this cross had about 1/3 broken colored seedlings. I don’t know where it comes from. Ecru standards have light old gold centers turning to lines and then heavier stitched borders. Random rosy wine splashes further decorate them. Crests of dark gold styles are striped red-brown. White falls are heavily washed and mottled dark brown. Random streaks and flecks of white make it a bit whimsical. Multi-layered dark brown and old gold beards terminate in small black aril signals. Sweet fragrance. This cross produced a very nice group of plicata patterned seedlings in several different colors and shades. Feuding Fiddles has near solid raspberry standards and band on creamy yellow falls. As with all of the sisters in the cross the form is lovely and clumps cover themselves in bloom. Sdlg. White standards have a touch of lemon at the base. Falls are maroon to red with a white rim, and a light yellow area around the beard. The flowers are heavily ruffled. A TB that is a little on the shorter side, for the front of the border, and certainly one for those who love ruffles.
