Sweet fragrance. Gorgeously formed, ruffled, and lightly laced blooms are adorned with big delicious beards. Light mid pink standards are blended buff at the edges. Falls have a creamy cantaloupe center with orange hafts and lighter edge. Supremely show-branched stalks have 3 branches and spur resulting in 10-12 blooms. Very strong, robust, and clean growth. Sweet fragrance. Yes, another ‘Crocodile Smile’ offspring. To say its plicata markings are subtle is an understatement. Some might question it being a plicata, but both parents are plicatas. It isn’t a glaciata because there are some subtle anthocyanin markings. A beautifully elegant flower, with all good garden traits, it should be an excellent parent. Standards are warm white with a pale stitched edge. Falls are warm white with minimum buff plicata hafts and edge. Sdlg. Sweet fragrance. A very pleasing pastel broken color with strong growth and 8-9 buds. Standards are mid lilac in the center with irregular streaks of peach and a cream band. Falls have a pale violet center blending into a wide pale pink band. Hafts are light peach, veined white and there is irregular light to dark random streaks of violet overall. Ruffled! Sdlg. Sweet fragrance. A broken color plicata, coming from ‘Me And My Shadow’. No two flowers alike, as the degree of stippling and dotting in ratio to broken color changes from bloom to bloom. Sweet fragrance. ‘Me And My Shadow’ has been an excellent parent. I am excited about the possibilities of using Never Never Land in plicata breeding since it is half plicata. Its vivid red-orange beards will be a wonderful bold addition when transferred to plicatas. Superior garden traits make it a great garden subject. Standards are light blue with a tan wire rim. Standards are a medium yellow with a darker edge. Falls are a very light yellow with deep lemon yellow hafts. A wide ruffled deep maroon band frames the pattern. It is hard to capture the true grandeur of Boxing Ring in a photo. The flowers are very large and widely formed with great ruffles. It creates a very dramatic look in the garden. Much admired by garden visitors, it is a gorgeous iris that will not be overlooked.

Standards are creamy white with pinkish centers. Falls are wide and ruffled with a deep violet purple center wash that transitions to a very wide lavender band. Its striking pattern is displayed on nicely branched and budded stems. A nice clean and sharp addition to the rimmed pattern.

This one is a bit hard to describe. Standards are a lovely blended lavender with medium burnt orange centers transitioning to orange veins as they move toward the edge. Falls are a complex blend of colors that appear as a deep burnt orange to red creating a very lovely and distinctive color. Great branching and stems carry well-formed flowers that are a true delight. Coming from the beautifully colored and formed Shockaholic. Challenge Accepted is a nice advancement in this color pattern.

I have been working with Shockaholic as a parent, trying to put a really nice stem on intensely colored patterns involving orange. This one certainly makes the mark. Standards have pink centers that transition to peach. Falls are a vibrant medium orange. Great stems carry nicely ruffled and very elegant flowers. Such a lovely medley of colors!

HIGH WIRE ACT (T. Johnson ’25)

High Wire Act is such a beautiful iris, especially in a clump where it really shines, showing off its beautiful gold rim. Standards are cream with very faint gold veining in the center and a violet line up the midrib. The wide ruffled gold band really catches the eye. Falls are white, with a very wide rust red dotted band and white wire rim. A violet line down the center of the petal, from below the beard to the petal’s edge, adds another dimension of intrigue.

Medium lavender to blue standards are flushed ecru to green in the center. Falls are a rich mahogany to red with a narrow lighter edge. It is stunning in a clump, with masses of vibrant bicolor flowers. Sister to last year’s Flip A Coin.

Buff pink standards are heavily infused with lavender up the midrib. Falls are a rich and smooth lavender violet with a lighter wash extending down on either side of the beard. Lost In Thought has a very nicely formed flower on great stems. Such a clean and pleasing color and presentation.

Quite an intensely colored iris. Standards are solid deep oxblood red. Falls are cream with a lemon wash on either side of the beard extending down to the wide red dotted band. Very showy in the fields this last year, making quite a statement at the end of its row.

In the continuing quest for that perfectly clean pink amoena comes Love You More. White standards are flushed pink in the centers. Falls are a gorgeous shade of pink, with deeper texture veins. It is a really lovely color combination that is stunning in the fields. Classically formed flowers are held on nicely branched and budded stems. Really gorgeous.

Some of the color combinations that are appearing in the SDBs are amazing. Gold-edged pink standards rise above pink falls with a cherry pink plicata overlay and a showy gold edge. Then add large tangerine beards and orange style arms. Amazing form, color, and garden presence!
