ZIG ZAG (T. Johnson ’21)

Two things immediately come to mind when I think of this flower: the brilliant beard and the wonderful wide, round and ruffled form. It could be described as a rimmed broken color plicata. A very interesting mix of several patterns in one. I have used it heavily in breeding. Zig Zag is one of many iris to be introduced out of the fantastic parent Alaia.

Light yellow petals, with a near solid purple overlay on the falls, accentuated by a light yellow area below the beard and a gold band. One of my favorites for this year, absolutely stunning in a clump.

Intensely ruffled light lemon petals with a light violet plicata inner band and a deeper violet stitched haft. The beards are neon orange. Form!!

CANDY TREAT (T. Johnson ’25)
SDB Early-midseason 12” (30.5cm) Slight fragrance.
Standards are solid flesh pink to orange. Falls have a cream ground dotted and stitched with salmon and a lighter edge. Beards are burnt orange. Nicely formed and budded in a very yummy color combination.

FEELING SO SMALL (T. Johnson ’25)

This iris is truly a little show off! A rust red plicata with a split yellow ground below the large orange beard. Makes an absolutely stunning clump.

FEISTY SPIRIT (T. Johnson ’25)

Gorgeous round and ruffled form on this yellow ground plicata. A wonderful bonus to be able to look down into the flower and see those gorgeous deep orange style arms. Choice!

FINELY FINISHED (T. Johnson ’25)

Some of the color combinations that are appearing in the SDBs are amazing. Gold-edged pink standards rise above pink falls with a cherry pink plicata overlay and a showy gold edge. Then add large tangerine beards and orange style arms. Amazing form, color, and garden presence!
