What a sight this monkey is with a wonderful luminata pattern. Standards are cream heavily washed mid khaki as are the styles. Falls have huge neon marigold beards surrounded by clear mid yellow throat and hafts giving way to white surrounding their tips. The falls lower half is washed/sanded mid brown and narrowly banded tan gold. What a sight! Very showy clumps. Excellent parent.

HUNGARIAN RHAPSODY (P. Black ‘20)

This exuberant IB has rampant growth and explodes with color from all the flowers. Pale peach styles peek out from mid purple standards. Dark purple falls have light peach luminata patches surrounding vivid orange beards. Falls have irregular light peach broken color streaks. Two branches plus spur provide 7 buds and a very long bloom season. Fertile IB.

MOUSE THAT ROARED (P. Black '21)

It may be small, but it has a big impact in a clump. It is another variation on a plicata theme reaching back to ‘Ghost Ship’. It is a luminata but not in the traditional TB style luminatas by having darker fall veins rather than lighter. The upper half of white standards are shaded mid slate purple with butter edges. Startling white styles peak out from between them. Falls have bright yellow throats blended to white then washed light to mid violet to edges. Chlorophyl lines streak alongside beards turning to mid violet and darkening to edges.

It is a striking luminata. Mid lilac standards open enough to showcase mid pink styles. Light peach luminata patches streak into dark grape purple falls. Vivid orange beards scream for attention.

It is amazing to have three prime selections from the same cross. This luminata plicata has old gold standards washed darker brass overall and interesting green midribs. Mid gold styles lead to bold yellow luminata type fall spots that have light tan plicata markings becoming mid cinnamon toward edges. The lower half of fall is dark mahogany with a gilt gold rim. The big burnt orange beards will make you go ‘Wow Gee Whiz’. Great from a distance or up close. Strong growth.

Slight musky fragrance SDB plicatas continue to evolve. ‘Contemplate’ brings reverse yellow plicatas into being. Butter standards have wide dark khaki plicata bands. White falls have plicata bands of mid violet and narrowly banded mid khaki. Unusual light blue luminata type patch on each side of beards. Can be used to create reverse bi-color plicatas.

I’M IN LOVE (Paul Black '22)

Pronounced sweet fragrance. Yes, it was love a first sight and that hasn’t changed in its subsequent years of evaluation. It is at the top of my favorite SDBs. Bright, cheery and personable are good descriptors for it. White styles peer from inside bright yellow standards veined and toned slate violet in upper third. Bright yellow luminata patches give way to white shoulders blending to light lilac washed falls veined overall dark lilac. Two toned orange and marigold beards add fiery passion. Variable color and markings. Fabulous parent.

Pronounced sweet fragrance For breeders, here’s a lovely twofer for you, luminata and plicata on one side and lace of the other. It makes for an exciting parent. Ruffled and lightly laced khaki standards have slate red violet bases. Light khaki style crests are laced. Mid yellow hafts are veined mid mahogany and darker mahogany over lower half. What makes this lovely iris special is the three-toned marigold to white beard dividing the light yellow to white luminata patch on the dark indigo falls. Standards are also dark indigo. Styles are white with indigo crests. It makes an impressive clump.

Hold the presses. A riot is beginning. Chaos Monkeys are creating havoc. WOW! Impressive, big blindingly orange beards refuse to go unnoticed as they sit prominently on dark indigo blooms with light peach luminata patches and white style arms. Nothing else like it!
