This iris is a very complex mix of colors and is hard to describe. I think it is best to just look at the picture. The name Coat of Many Colors seems to fit it well. Nicely branched stems and good bud count combined with lovely ruffled form make it a winner for sure. On top of all of that it is a hybridizers dream, giving some of the most awesome patterns in the seedling patch this past season. Coat of Many Colors is the product of two Barry Blyth seedlings. Recommended!!

DREAM ABOUT YOU (T. Johnson ’18)

Standards mustard to lemon yellow. Falls are a rich medium mauve to violet with a lighter brownish fall edge. Hafts are touched yellow to brown on either side of russet beards. An iris that is a bit difficult to photograph. Super form and ruffles on well branched and budded show stalks. A favorite and tagged for introduction from its maiden bloom. Recommended!!

Lemon yellow standards over red violet falls with lavender band and slight yellow wire rim. Short white lines radiate out on either side of the yellow orange beard. With its super nice ruffled form, we have used Dressed to the Nine’s heavily in hybridizing and is an exceptional parent for form and banded patterns in lots of different colors. There will be many intros from it in the future. Nice stems with good buds complete this quality iris.

‘Hard to Resist’ has been a favorite from its maiden bloom. Gorgeous wide ruffled form showcases the striking violet blue falls with large white starburst centers. surrounding showy tangerine beards. Wonderfully branched show stalks arise from strong vigorous plants. Highly recommended for a spot in your garden that needs a little extra pizzazz.

Wow is what I always say when I see this one bloom. The flowers are large and very dramatic. Lavender standards with a slightly darker infusion in the midrib. Falls are a very deep plush purple black with a very ruffled lavender band and then a thin deep purple wire edge. The beards are a brilliant orange. A very clean brilliant contrast. Makes startling clumps!! Highly recommended.

Sweet fragrance. Salmon pink standards over orchid falls with a slight blue flash below the red-orange beards. A very strong grower that makes a very elegant clump filled with bloom. What we really like about Double Jeopardy is how it displays itself. The sequence and placement of blooms and stalks allows for an open look that does not overcrowd. Each flower is an individual ruffled creation. A favorite of mine for the last few years as it never fails to dazzle. Recommended!!

Sweet fragrance. Luminatas have always been a favorite of mine and I am super excited about Spine Tingler. The form is divine-very wide and ruffled flowers on show stems with high bud count. A clump of it approaches perfection. Inky purple standards with nice precise gold edging. Darker violet falls with nice creamy-white lumi patch that is touched gold with a short white dart below the orange beard. The very wide ruffled falls are edged in gold. Recommended for the lovers of this pattern.

Sweet fragrance. Wow! This is a favorite that I look forward to blooming each year. Such a strange but pretty and intriguing combination of colors. Sweet fragrance. Standards are marine blue violet with a white band. Falls are a deep rich blue violet with a white edge and striping on the sides. There is a large white luminata patch around the beard and a short white dart below the beard. The hafts are touched orange which helps to draw the eye into the flower. RUNNING IN CIRCLES (T. Johnson ’23)

Sweet fragrance. One of our favorite intros for this year and that is saying a lot with its competition and the fact that it is a plicata. The color on this is hard to convey in a picture as the presence it has in the garden. It is simply spectacular in clump with its extremely bright color and sharp pattern. Standards are icy white with a near solid overlay of blue lilac. The falls are white with a blue haft, center dart below beard, and band. Even the beard is tipped in blue. Gorgeous, wide, and ruffled form make it irresistible. Running In Circles has also been admired by garden visitors. Recommended! you won’t be sorry! Sdlg. THIS IS CRAZY (T. Johnson ’23)

Sweet fragrance. Deep lemon-yellow standards with a lighter edge. Falls are a rust to burgundy with a white rayed pattern extending out from around the beard. The falls are then banded with a wide lemon border and then etched by a thin red line. This Is Crazy is breathtakingly beautiful in clump. WATCHING YOU (T. Johnson ’24)

Light fragrance. Light flesh pink standards. Falls are lighter with a red violet stitched bar across the haft and a deep blue violet dart that extends below the beard to halfway down the petal. The beards are red, which in combination with the dart give a bit of a feeling like you are being watched. Totally unique and startling in the garden. Recommended! Sdlg. DRAMATIC FINALE (T. Johnson ’25)
TB Late-very late 38” (96.5cm) Slight fragrance.
Standards have dark reddish violet centers with a wide blue violet area and then a lighter edge. Falls are the same with deep reddish violet hafts. The flowers on Dramatic Finale are extremely ruffled and a bit flared. Nice stems with good bud count are the norm. Dramatic Finale is very late and is not recommended in hot early climates such as Southern CA or Arizona where it may be susceptible to heat burn. It should be a great variety to close the season in the more northerly gardens.

Oh Far Out is what I say each year when I approach this iris. The intensity of the gold is so bright, it is amazing!! Brilliant golden yellow flowers have a wide and precise maroon red band and lighter rim on the falls. An absolutely stunning iris in a clump!! Strong show stems are in abundance. Recommended for those who are looking for an iris to make a statement.
