Puerto Vallarta the iris kind of reminds me of the beautiful sunsets over the ocean on the beach in Puerto Vallarta, thus the name. Brilliant golden yellow standards. Falls have dark yellow hafts that blend to a lighter lemon wash and finally deepening to a mustard yellow edge. Salmon shadings are deeper at the haft becoming a blended wash inside the yellow edge. There is also a large white patch below the intensely saturated yellow/orange beards. A very consistent garden performer with show stems and 9 buds. An easy and strong grower that really adds a bright spot of color in the garden. Super!!

SHARP DRESSED MAN (T.Johnson '10)

He’s tall, dark and handsome and draws the eye of anyone walking by. Only the finest clothes will do for this Sharp Dressed Man. Standards are iridescent mid purple. Elegantly ruffled purple black falls have a velvety texture and slightly lighter rim. Only someone so confident could get by with such an outrageous orange tie. Show stalks with 3-4 branches and 10-12 buds help insure a superior garden performance. Robust, healthy growth. Colors are exceptionally clear.

Sweet fragrance. Light lavender violet standards are banded in cream with faint gold veining. Falls are a rich deep red violet with a light lavender edge. Beards are a nice tangerine. Space race is a super strong grower and a fast increaser creating full clumps very quickly. A color pattern that shows from clear across the field. Sdlg. Slight sweet fragrance Interestingly, this cross had about 1/3 broken colored seedlings. I don’t know where it comes from. Ecru standards have light old gold centers turning to lines and then heavier stitched borders. Random rosy wine splashes further decorate them. Crests of dark gold styles are striped red-brown. White falls are heavily washed and mottled dark brown. Random streaks and flecks of white make it a bit whimsical. Multi-layered dark brown and old gold beards terminate in small black aril signals. HIGH WIRE ACT (T. Johnson ’25)

High Wire Act is such a beautiful iris, especially in a clump where it really shines, showing off its beautiful gold rim. Standards are cream with very faint gold veining in the center and a violet line up the midrib. The wide ruffled gold band really catches the eye. Falls are white, with a very wide rust red dotted band and white wire rim. A violet line down the center of the petal, from below the beard to the petal’s edge, adds another dimension of intrigue.

GODDESS OF THE RAINBOW (L. Miller ’25)
TB Midseason 36” (91.5cm) Slight sweet fragrance.
Brilliant golden yellow standards are echoed in the yellow hafts surrounding the orange beard on violet blue falls with a ruffled darker band. Super form, branching and bud count, and a favorite. Goddess Of The Rainbow received an EC in 2024 and won Best Seedling of the 2024 OTIS Show.

PLICATA PORTRAIT (P. Black '25)
TB Early-midseason 34” (86.5cm) Slight sweet fragrance.
She is all dressed up for her picture perfect moment. White ground standards have wide solid dark maroon bands and heavy overall plicata sanded centers. Interiors of the standards have white ground with plicata marks similar to falls. Broad white falls have mid red-violet sanding within wide dark maroon plicata bands. Widely spaced dark maroon lines traverse the centers. Three branches have 8-9 buds. Strong growth.

RIVER VEIN (Thomas Johnson ’26)
TB Early-midseason 38” (96.5cm) Slight musky fragrance.
Standards are very light lavender white, with golden violet veining that becomes more prominent in the gold band. Falls are very deep velvety purple, with a strong white ground displaying the sunburst veining pattern emanating out from around and below the gold orange beard. River Vein is an early variety that puts on a fantastic show at the beginning of the bloom season. Show stems, vigorous plants, and plenty of buds are the norm. Sdlg.
