I have been working on the blue bearded pink iris pattern for quite a few years. The biggest challenge is to keep the blue beard and get the petals a more true pink and less lavender pink. I am quite happy with Eyes of an Angel. Beautiful pink standards and edge on white falls with frosted powder blue beards. Wonderful wide and ruffled flowers on good stems. A knockout in person and a must for the lover of blue bearded pinks.

HAPPY DAYDREAM (P. Black '21)

Imagine laying in a lush green meadow with the warmth of the sun lulling you into a ‘Happy Daydream’. These tightly formed mid yellow blooms have just enough ruffling to give them a bouncy lift. Darker gold texture veins descend the falls. Strong show stalks have 3 branches and spur providing 9-10 buds. Its strong spicy fragrance is a plus.

Our fascination continues with the lined pattern. Standards are white. Falls are a white ground with lavender wash and deep lavender veins that extend from the base of the standards to the wide white border. Brilliant tangerine beards and gold touched hafts complete the look. Strong growth with nice stems and buds on vigorous, floriferous plants.

Slight fragrance. Happy Place got its name based on its cheery nature. It is just such a happy iris that makes me smile. Brilliant canary yellow self with a white line extending below the large bushy white beards. The falls are slightly darker yellow in the center. Very bright and a favorite. Sdlg. POSITIVE THINKING (T. Johnson ’23)

Light sweet fragrance. It is hard not to think positive when viewing this happy, cheerful iris. Standards are a brilliant canary yellow. Falls are creamy white with a canary yellow haft and band. There is also a touch of lilac on the shoulders and blushed below the beard. An interesting and beautiful application of color. Nicely ruffled, well-branched show stems are the norm. Sdlg. Slight fragrance. Total surprise indeed is what happened when this one first bloomed. Certainly not what I was expecting, but happy for sure. White standards have a yellow blush to them. Falls are rust to red with a white spray pattern around the beard and a light lavender to white band. Musky fragrance. The quest for a TB with blue standards and pink falls has been a long and frustrating road for many hybridizers. Along the way there are beautiful seedlings worthy of introduction, and this is one of those. Larger flowers are carried on sturdy stalks. Notice the peach pink styles peering from between violet-blue standards. Standards are a blended light blue-violet and pink. Medium peachy orange standards rise above cream ground falls with a wide rosy pink dotted plicata band. There is also dotting across the hafts and a light blush of peach. A really bright and cheerful bicolor plicata.

MAGIC IS HAPPENING (P. Black '25)
TB Midseason-late 35” (89cm) Pronounced sweet fragrance.
The bubbly personality of Magic is Happening is like a fine bottle of champagne. Its presence just makes you happy. It has a great combination of light blue on white plicata standards and narrow red-violet plicata banded falls. Falls are expansive, nicely flared, and have a perfect amount of ruffling. You need some time to take in this exceptional creation. Three well-spaced branches have 8-9 buds.
