A favorite of ours from its maiden bloom. Eggshell white Standards with a nice wide gold band and the beginnings of violet veining. Falls are wide and ruffled deep violet with a white ray spray pattern around brilliant orange beards. Nicely ruffled flowers are held on good stems with ample buds. Very showy and a garden favorite.

MISTY SUNLIGHT (B. Blyth ‘19)

A superb show Iris with an average of 12 buds. The standards are lemon blending to lemon cream at midribs and at the base. Falls are creamy white with1/8” edge of lemon and the reverse of the falls is lemon yellow, showing well on the ruffles. Gold hafts. Beards are white tipped lemon. Fertile and a great parent. Here’s another in the expanding line of late blooming, multiple budded and branched SDBs. Classically formed flowers have smoky light violet to buff pink blended standards and light pink to violet styles. Mid violet blend falls have cream hafts with dark plum veins that extend downward. Dark orange beards make it even more outrageous. Three well-spaced branches have 7-9 buds.

PUSSYCAT EYES (P. Black ‘19)

‘Pussycat Eyes’ is an altogether amazing quarter bred arilbred. Easy growing arilbreds with such strong aril characteristics are rare and even more rare is having 2 branches and at least 7 buds. Palest lilac standards surround yellow styles. Wide, arched falls have big black signals giving way to a dark cherry area and then to mid red purple and finished with a 1/4” tan gold band. Grows easily in average garden conditions.

SHARP DRESSED MAN (T.Johnson '10)

He’s tall, dark and handsome and draws the eye of anyone walking by. Only the finest clothes will do for this Sharp Dressed Man. Standards are iridescent mid purple. Elegantly ruffled purple black falls have a velvety texture and slightly lighter rim. Only someone so confident could get by with such an outrageous orange tie. Show stalks with 3-4 branches and 10-12 buds help insure a superior garden performance. Robust, healthy growth. Colors are exceptionally clear.

WHY BE NORMAL (T.Johnson ‘14)

No reason that I can think of to be normal when you can be outrageous. ‘Why Be Normal’ is a true flat iris, one having no standards and six falls with beards rather than one that merely has weak standards. Mid caramel falls have mid brown hafts and center stripes extending from mid mustard gold beards. Nest of white styles with gold crests is very cool. Nicely branched stalks have no trouble supporting these large flowers.

COURAGEOUS ONE (Thomas Johnson ’22)

Light sweet fragrance. Canary yellow standards lightening towards the edge. Falls are a very light yellow base washed slightly darker to the edge. A large rust red signal radiates out from around the beards and extends half way down the fall. Nicely proportioned BB and very showy and unique.

Pronounced sweet fragrance Don’t be afraid to strut your stuff and let the world know who you are. This one wears its brash, loud and boisterous colors as a badge of uniqueness. Light ruby veins and wire rim encircle light gold standards. Dark gold style crests have dark brown stripes. White fall centers are outrageously veined and sanded dark wine transitioning into wide solid red-black band with crinkle laced edges dotted white. Show stalks with 3-4 branches and 8-10 buds. Sweet fragrance. Brilliant gold standards. Falls have medium gold ground with a heavily dotted and stitched red violet plicata haft and narrow petal edge. Huge near red beards are intensely saturated. Fantastic wide, round, and ruffled form on nice stems carrying three buds. Sdlg. TL298B: Alaia X Twitter Bug.

FIELDS OF GOLD (T. Johnson ’23)

Light sweet fragrance. Standards are a deep lemon yellow with the edges being a light lemon. Falls are an interesting blend of lemon and maroon in the center giving somewhat of a brown effect. The petal edge of the fall is encircled in a wide cream and lemon blended band. The color of the fall can be quite different depending on the weather and the year. This last spring we were cool and wet the whole time and the flowers opened up a rich brown in the fall and then transitioned to the lighter color. Lightly scented. LOVELY LIVVY (T. Johnson ’23) TB early-midseason 35” (89cm) Lightly scented. This gorgeous iris is named to honor the late great Olivia Newton-John. Olivia was not only a very talented celebrity but she was a gorgeous human being. Although I never met her, I certainly followed her career and life. Always a kind, warm and loving person, she never acted the celebrity, taking time to acknowledge all who came upon her. She courageously fought breast cancer in an out of remission for 20 years. Never one to complain she always looked on the positive side of things. The latter part of her life was dedicated to finding a cure for Cancer. She founded the Oliva Newton-John Cancer And Wellness Centre In Melbourne, Australia, the country she called home. Here she tirelessly raised money to support cancer research using plant-based treatments. Lovely Livvy was the pet name the media used throughout Olivia’s life to describe her. The iris we have chosen to honor her kind of named itself. Firstly, it is pink, the color of breast cancer awareness. On top of that, I made the cross in the garden of Barry and Lesley Blyth (using two of Barry’s seedlings), who live only miles from where Olivia grew up. Lovely Livvy is an extraordinary and unique creation in a color combination that has not yet been seen in iris until now. White standards are flushed pink. Falls are a deeper rose pink with a gorgeous ruffled white band. Olivia with her kind and generous heart inspired me to do my part, so I donated a portion of the proceeds of each plant sold in its introductory year (2023) to her Cancer research centre in Australia. Slight sweet fragrance. Pure white with a large blue signal around the beard. Orange beards. A totally unique breakthrough color and pattern in this class. No fragrance ‘Mini Stripe’ is an eye-catching sport of a quite average purple seedling. Both standards and falls of silvery translucent white flowers have mid to dark violet lines etched overall and becoming a closer stitched fall band. High Wire Act is such a beautiful iris, especially in a clump where it really shines, showing off its beautiful gold rim. Standards are cream with very faint gold veining in the center and a violet line up the midrib. The wide ruffled gold band really catches the eye. Falls are white, with a very wide rust red dotted band and white wire rim. A violet line down the center of the petal, from below the beard to the petal’s edge, adds another dimension of intrigue.

Medium lavender to blue standards are flushed ecru to green in the center. Falls are a rich mahogany to red with a narrow lighter edge. It is stunning in a clump, with masses of vibrant bicolor flowers. Sister to last year’s Flip A Coin.

Standards are medium peach to orange. Falls have a pink ground that is almost completely overlaid with violet plicata with the exception of the pink rim. A nice bicolor plicata with the added bonus of the pink rim.
