Old gold standards with reddish violet wash and dots. Falls are white with deep maroon hafts and red violet dotting forming a wide plicata band. Beards are an interesting burnt orange. Beautiful full ruffled form on excellent show stems. Strong growth. Gorgeous!!

FLYING MONKEY (P. Black '21)

What a sight this monkey is with a wonderful luminata pattern. Standards are cream heavily washed mid khaki as are the styles. Falls have huge neon marigold beards surrounded by clear mid yellow throat and hafts giving way to white surrounding their tips. The falls lower half is washed/sanded mid brown and narrowly banded tan gold. What a sight! Very showy clumps. Excellent parent.

A very pretty approach to a pink amoena that makes a super garden display. It has some excellent show stems. Standards are white, flushed with soft pink at the midribs. Falls are soft creamy pink, deeper on the outer ½” and at the hafts. Beards are tangerine on white.

There are plenty of ruffles on this smooth bicolor. Smoky pink standards are heavily infused royal purple. Very wide and ruffed falls are velvety deep royal purple with a lighter band. Strong stalks carry 8 to 11 buds.

Apart from its excellent production of show stems, this lovely Iris should really charm the judges. The standards are white with a faint flush of soft pink at the midribs. The falls are wide and lightly ruffled and pastel peach over cream. Some light tan veining radiating from the hafts. Very fertile. Organza, its pod parent is proving to be a super parent.

Sweet fragrance. Pure white standards with just the faintest pink mid-rib flush on opening. The lightly ruffled falls are soft rose to mauve pink, lightening around muted pink beards. Excellent branching. Coming from strong pink amoena breeding.

Sweet fragrance. A bit of a hard color combination to describe. Standards are a muted lavender violet lightening towards the edge and becoming a gold band and then a very light lavender edge. Falls are mostly a deep plush red-violet but with a deeper blue blended central belly stripe. The blue coloration also peeks through closer to the fall edge. The edge of the petal has a border of light flesh pink. The blue tipped beards also add a lot to the pattern. Wonderful large and ruffled flowers with exquisite form that keeps you coming back for another look. 8 buds are borne on nicely branched stems. Proving to be an excellent parent. The color does lighten with age but gracefully and with class.

SHOCKING SECRET (T. Johnson ’22)

Sweet fragrance. Shocking Secret was selected for introduction when I first laid eyes on it. It was in flower in the middle of a 20 row seedling patch. The patch was in full flower and still Shocking Secret stood out among the sea of color, staring at me with its deep signal as if to say “pick me”. Medium orchid to lavender self with pink tones infused in the standards. Falls are the same, only with a large dark black cherry signal that surrounds the orange beards. Nicely branched and budded with good form. Yet another introduction from When Doves Cry, proving to be an excellent parent. To say it is dramatic is an understatement.

Light sweet fragrance. Standards are medium pink in the center, then becoming white with pink veins and finally forming a pink rim. Falls are white with a rose-pink band and a white tipped orange beard. Just Between Us is lovely in every way. The ruffled form is beautiful, it is a good grower and has nicely branched stems. Light sweet fragrance. Pink Standards and hafts over medium lavender falls. Huge blocky flowers with excellent form are carried on show stems. Check out the differing shots of it on the website. The color can be quite different with lighting, different days or even different years. Generally, the more overcast and cooler that it is the darker the color. Light fragrance. Standards have a white ground that is washed pink, with a deeper pink stitched band. Falls are pristine white with a wide raspberry to purple dotted band across the haft and precise dotted fall edge. Burnt orange beards are tipped purple and then white. A stunning iris! Light fragrance. Salmon pink standards. Falls are a medium blue purple with a wide deep red violet lined bar completely covering the haft and extending out the length of the beard. Your eyes will immediately be drawn to the very large and showy red beards. A very distinctive and fun iris for sure, with excellent growth and well branched show stems. Sdlg. GLOWING MAGIC (P. Black '25)

This luscious glaciata is a blended medley of mid pink to peach with mid apricot hafts and bands. Glaciatas are prone to virus. So far this lovely creation has remained virus free. Strong growth produces stalks with 3 branches and 7-8 buds. An excellent parent for all types of plicatas. One of my favorite irises, with an added bonus of medians in its background.
