Cream ground almost completely overlaid with pink and a little bit of violet dotting. Falls are stark white with a violet plicata band. Beards tangerine with red tips. A very clean and pretty bicolor plicata. Nice wide form and strong growth with show stems. Nice!!

Sweet fragrance. Deep peach pink standards. Falls are light flesh pink touched deeper at the haft and at the edges of the petal. Wide overlapping and heavily ruffled form on good stems. Luscious and yummy colors.

YOU CAN JIVE (T. Johnson ’22)

Sweet fragrance. Canary yellow standards. Falls are light lavender blue below the beard becoming lighter towards the edge. The hafts are touched yellow and there is a light yellow band that surrounds the fall. You Can Jive produces quality show stems with 10 or more buds, grows with strong vigor, and blooms profusely. In fact it puts on such a show that I simply have to stop to admire it each day when it is in flower. Uniqueness can be determined not only by color or pattern but garden performance and this one certainly does that.

IMPRESSIVE (Paul Black '22)

Pronounced spicy fragrance It is quite reminiscent of ‘Daughter of Stars’ but shares little in common ancestry. White veins trace through violet blue standards. Dark purple falls are brightened by white luminata patches and dart at the end of beards. Show stalks to be expected from the parentage have 2 branches plus spur and 7-9 buds. Clumps command your attention.

Light sweet fragrance. Very light lavender to white standards with a bit of pink at the base. Falls are a rich medium lavender. This is an iris that we adore. The flowers are so immense and with the wide ruffles it looks like floating clouds when it is in full flower. It is so hard to capture its true grandeur in a photograph. Lovely and an easy grower. DAINTY BRIDE (P. Black '25)
SDB Late-very late 14” (35.5cm) Slight sweet fragrance.
It is another of my late blooming, multiple budded and branched SDBs. The flowers are a miniaturized version of Bride’s Halo. White flowers have narrow light yellow bands. Show stalks have three branches and 8-9 buds. Unheard of for a SDB. From two of my favorite varieties.

VARIATION ON A THEME (P. Black '25)
TB Midseason-late 33” (84cm) Slight musky fragrance.
This theme includes several medians and I. aphylla in the parentage. I’m excited when I can add more diversity in a cross. As I like to say, “More is more.” The blending, shades, and patterning of blue bring to mind the ever-changing skies. Standards are mid-dark blue blending to mid-light blue toward edges. Inky dark blue falls blend to wide light blue bands. Two-toned beards are a fun accent. Moderately sized flowers are carried on three branches having 9-10 buds.

The name kind of tells you the story. It starts flowering with the midseason varieties, and continues through until the very end of the iris bloom season. Very rich pink standards repeat themselves in a soft band on white falls. Big showy powder blue beards certainly add a touch of class. Very nice form with good bud count and stems. Standards have pink centers and a flesh pink and lavender blended band with faint darker pink veins. Falls are very light lavender pink with a deep reddish-violet central fall spot that becomes more of a wash as it moves out below the beard.
