Curve Ball is all about the beard. Lemon yellow standards; falls are white ground w/ a lemon overlay transitioning to a wide dark violet band. Very large tang. beards extend longer than usual down the fall. 7 buds on good stalks. Form is a bit funky but add to the appeal.

FASHIONABLE LOOK (T. Johnson ’20)

Medium lemon and cream blended standards with a very light lavender line extending up the midrib. Falls are red purple in the center bending to a lavender band and then a gilt gold edge. Wonderful show stems carrying 9 buds complete the package. Strong garden appeal.

GUSSIED UP (T. Johnson ’21)

Stark white standards with a slight lavender wash in the center. Falls are a deep rich purple with white lines and a white rim. Gold style crests show through between the standards providing a nice contrast. Orange red beards add to the effect. Very showy and a garden visitor favorite. Strong growth and good stems add to the appeal.

PAINTED LOVE (T.Johnson ’16)

If you need a bold spalsh of color in your garden, ‘Painted Love’ is the iris for you. Mid gold standards are blushed red violet. Wide blue violet falls have Indian red bands and hafts and are paler around deep marigold beards. Nine buds on well branched stalks add to its appeal. Reminds us of an updated version of the old classic ‘Syncopation’.

Deep golden yellow standards. Falls are white with deep lemon hafts and slight fall wash becoming a violet wash and then transitioning into a purple and yellow blended rim. Beards are orange tipped white. A very flashy flower that leaves an impression. Outstanding garden appeal. Nice show stems with 9 buds.

Sweet fragrance. Standards are lavender with pink veining and infusions in the center. Contrasting medium salmon pink style arms are quite noticeable. Slight musky fragrance Prickly lace on lighter colored irises kicks their appeal up another notch. Heavily laced light violet standards dance above palest violet falls toned slightly darker toward their margins. Deeply sculpted texture veins add a three-dimensional quality. UNIMAGINABLE (Paul Black 23)

Slight musky fragrance It is difficult to say which of the newer veined standards and falls creations I like best. Each is distinctive and has its own appeal. ‘Unimaginable’ is certainly toward the top of the list. Standards are pale lilac with one inch band of dark plum and solid rim. Circular white upper half of falls is covered with black veins progressing to solid black lower half with white dotted laced rims. It is an amazing look. Three branches produce 7-8 buds. GARDEN APPEAL (Black ’24)

Sweet fragrance. This smaller flowered tall bearded beauty traces back to ‘Passionate Embrace’ and the unusually colored flowers it produces, particularly in the citrus colors. Its myriads of show stalks cover the clumps in bloom. The white fall bands make it pop. Contrasting style arms are characteristic of ‘Passionate Embrace’ offspring, as are unique colors and show branched stalks. Sdlg. BOUNCING BLUE BETTY (P. Black '25)

I’ll leave it to you to figure out which Betty and where the bounce is. Is it in her footsteps? She is elegantly appealing. Ruffled icy white standards echo the interesting white falls that are delicately washed pale blue to several shades darker toward their edges. Statuesque stalks can have 4 branches with 11-12 buds. Put some bounce in your garden.
