This is the closest to a dark blue amoena I’ve seen. Others have varying widths of white bands. ‘By The Sea’ does have a white wire rim which accents the blue fall. It produces many stalks on vigorous plants. Clumps create an immediate focal point in the landscape.

No fragrance. We have loved this since its opening bloom. An amoena plicata. White standards. White styles, with blue behind the anthers. The falls are pure white with1/4” mid blue plicata stitched edge and deeper blue violet hafts, reaching across to the white based, tipped yellow beards. Gorgeous balanced ruffled form. Fertile.

Slight fragrance. Blue white standards with a strong pink flush in the center. Falls are a rich flamingo pink with a red beard. A striking color combination with well branched and budded stems. A very rich and vibrant approach to a pink amoena.

No fragrance Breeding for a pure white with dark blue beard TBs has been the pursuit of many hybridizers and one that has yet to be accomplished. The link between beard saturation and petal color has been near impossible to break. The darker the beard, the bluer the petals. The whiter the petals, the lighter the beard becomes. ‘Caterpillar Blues’ is a very light reverse blue amoena with a darker blue beard. Disease resistant foliage and durable plants produce plenty of bloom stalks with 3 branches and 6-7 buds.

FEEL THE BEAT (T. Johnson ’23)

Sweet fragrance. Milky white standards have medium lemon centers. Falls have a large maroon signal in the center that is touched gold on either side of the beard. The signal then bleeds down the fall and transitions to a solid deep lilac and finally becoming lighter lilac, forming a band at the petal’s edge. This has been a fun iris to hybridize with for the pansy face pattern. Oddly enough it is a sister to Loving Embrace which is a salmon amoena and Brilliant Debut which is a yellow amoena. SHIVERS (T. Johnson ’23) TB Midseason 37” (94cm) Sweet fragrance. Wow, just wow is what I say each time I see this one in flower. Nearest attempt yet to a black amoena that we have seen. Icy blue white standards have a gilt gold edge and the visible style crests are also etched in gold. Falls are about a dark a black purple as there is. Beards are a burnt orange. Shivers is also blessed with beautiful form, ruffles, stems and good bud count. Absolutely spectacular. Check out additional pictures including clump shots of it on the website. Sdlg. Slight sweet fragrance. I have a bit of a love for orange amoenas and this one is no exception! Standards are cream with orange centers. Falls are a rich orange with deep red-orange beards. Pronounced sweet fragrance This beauty is another project that has taken more than a few generations to get achieve, and it still isn’t finished. The goal is a clear pink amoena and blue/pink bicolor. Both are possible given enough generations. Cool white standards have light green veins up midribs. Light peach falls blend to buttery yellow. Light fragrance. Creamy white standards have light orange centers with light lavender veins, becoming orange as they extend outwards to the petal’s edge. Falls are a medium orange with salmon tones blended in the center. We continue to work on the orange amoena type to improve the stems. In the continuing quest for that perfectly clean pink amoena comes Love You More. White standards are flushed pink in the centers. Falls are a gorgeous shade of pink, with deeper texture veins. It is a really lovely color combination that is stunning in the fields. Classically formed flowers are held on nicely branched and budded stems. Really gorgeous.

One could call this a reverse pink amoena. Medium pink standards rise above cream falls with medium pink hafts. Loved One has lots of bubbly ruffles with good buds and branching. It is a very prolific grower and bloomer as well. A really nice eye-catching and clear pink.

Lucky Ticket is nearly a pure orange amoena, and it shows as such in the field. It is only on closer inspection that one notices the pink flush up the standards.
