It’s not only colorful but also has a zingy pattern. Mid yellow color of standards and styles repeats in the fall hafts. Irregular yellow veins continue over center of white falls changing to mid red violet veins inside wide brassy auburn bands. Light marigold beards are a nice complement. All petals are amply ruffled. Stalks have 3 branches and 8-9 buds. Mild sweet fragrance.

MAGIC IN ME (B. Blyth ’21)

This came from a cross made in Keith Keppel’s garden in Oregon by me using an American Iris as pod parent and pollen parent is from a Keppel cross made in Australia from Australian varieties and seed sent back to US and raised by Keith Keppel. The seedling which was to become Magic in Me was raised and selected in Australia and was returned to America for naming and introduction, a complete international effort! Standards are creamy lemon, faintly flushed lavender at midribs. The falls are lavender-violet with blended tan around the edges and hafts. Beards are prominent burnt tangerine. An elegant Iris that grows easily and flowers in profusion.

‘Sergey’ is an unsually gorgeous and subtle blue and yellow blended bicolor that was much admired at the 2015 AIS convention. It has wonderful form, growth, buds and stem. It is Being used heavily in breeding. Named in honor of our friend, Sergey Loktev, who has been a great advocate of irises and a frequent garden visitor from Russia.

She has it all, grace, charm, looks, and poise - she's a SUPER MODEL. This SUPER MODEL excels where other heavily laced violet types have failed. When she finishes blooming there is still plenty of increase left. Many visitors to the AIS convention this past year remarked on that trait. Perfectly formed medium lilac flowers are edged in heavy crinkled lace. With all this lace, SUPER MODEL still opens easily. Strong show stalks normally open two well placed flowers at once. Be the first one on your block with your own SUPER MODEL. Hopefully this will be the key to unlock the overbloom problem in this color range.

Lightly scented. LOVELY LIVVY (T. Johnson ’23) TB early-midseason 35” (89cm) Lightly scented. This gorgeous iris is named to honor the late great Olivia Newton-John. Olivia was not only a very talented celebrity but she was a gorgeous human being. Although I never met her, I certainly followed her career and life. Always a kind, warm and loving person, she never acted the celebrity, taking time to acknowledge all who came upon her. She courageously fought breast cancer in an out of remission for 20 years. Never one to complain she always looked on the positive side of things. The latter part of her life was dedicated to finding a cure for Cancer. She founded the Oliva Newton-John Cancer And Wellness Centre In Melbourne, Australia, the country she called home. Here she tirelessly raised money to support cancer research using plant-based treatments. Lovely Livvy was the pet name the media used throughout Olivia’s life to describe her. The iris we have chosen to honor her kind of named itself. Firstly, it is pink, the color of breast cancer awareness. On top of that, I made the cross in the garden of Barry and Lesley Blyth (using two of Barry’s seedlings), who live only miles from where Olivia grew up. Lovely Livvy is an extraordinary and unique creation in a color combination that has not yet been seen in iris until now. White standards are flushed pink. Falls are a deeper rose pink with a gorgeous ruffled white band. Olivia with her kind and generous heart inspired me to do my part, so I donated a portion of the proceeds of each plant sold in its introductory year (2023) to her Cancer research centre in Australia. If you like earth tones, Rum And Raisin is for you. Standards are mid-light caramel tan. Multiple rings of color in the falls start with mid gold hafts with light tan plicata marks, then to a wide mid raisin band blended to mid gold bands. Muted mid marigold beards are a subtle contrast. YUM!
