Lightly fragrant. More coral than pink, this self reminds me of the coral jewelry you can obtain in Hawaii. The color always stops me in the garden because of its intensity. The coral-pink is a little creamy around the beards. Beards are coral, lightening to peach at the upturned tip. Flowers are ruffled with slightly crimped edges. Frothy, heavily ruffled and laced mid peach blend with fall centers several shades lighter. Soft brownish orange beards blend perfectly with this demure creation. Note the abundance of bloom and show stalks in the picture.

Sweet fragrance. White ground standards are almost completely overlaid gold. The midrib is flushed violet. Falls are white with a deep velvet red band. There is medium red violet dotted band inside the darker band. Nicely ruffled flowers on a very bright and pleasing color combination. A nice classically ruffled form completes the look. Sdlg. The ‘COUNTESS’, all decked out in her royal attire, is ready for a night of celebrating. Imposing clumps are filled with show stalks having 4 branches plus rebranch and carrying 10-11 buds.

Standards have a white ground almost completely overlaid with lavender plicata dotting and a very narrow purple wire edge. Falls are white heavily overlaid with deep purple black dotting at the hafts and forming a wide band. Nice burnt orange beards pop out of the center adding nice contrast. A very nice early variety that has wonderful stems and covers itself in bloom. Outstanding in clump!!

COURAGEOUS ONE (Thomas Johnson ’22)

Light sweet fragrance. Canary yellow standards lightening towards the edge. Falls are a very light yellow base washed slightly darker to the edge. A large rust red signal radiates out from around the beards and extends half way down the fall. Nicely proportioned BB and very showy and unique.

Pink standards rise above light pink falls with a deep peach pink haft. Beards are large and a combination of blue and white. A super easy grower with great form.

This kitty looks more like it is ready to go partying rather than cozy up at home. Falls on light pink flowers with mid pink styles have mid red-purple lined and sanded hafts and center stripes. Beards are flaming neon coral pink. Makes a joyful clump. Another interesting parentage.

Sweet fragrance. Cranberry red self with a blue blaze that becomes a wash below the tangerine beard. Really a nice rich and vibrant color that draws you in. Nice wide overlapping falls with light ruffles.

CRASH BANG (Black ’24) TB Very early 32” (81.5cm) Musky fragrance. A very smooth and brilliant variegata ensures ‘Crash Bang’ won’t be overlooked. Brilliant dark yellow standards. ‘Crashing Whitecaps’ is a superior iris in all respects. You’ll be glad you have it in your garden when you see its clump filled with show stalks standing tall among robust clean foliage. Cool white standards and styles color is repeated across the hafts on mid violet blue falls. Mid orange beards vie for attention. Stalks have 3 branches plus spur and 9-11 buds. A sure show winner. Sweet grape fragrance.

CROCODILE SMILE (Paul Black '22)

Pronounced sweet fragrance If I could have only one of my plicatas to breed with, it would be this one. Its genetic diversity, including several instances of ‘Dolce’ plus SDBs, IBs, tet MTBs, BBs and TBs, has given rise to unique colors and patterns in addition to solid growth. White ground standards are washed pale mustard becoming darker toward edges then embellished with darker mustard fine veining overall and white edges. Yellow styles are held within strongly held standards. Expansive white ground falls are widely plicata banded dark olive gold with more olive random dotting and line down centers, over centers and haft. Unique olive gold beards complete this unusual creature. Three branches have 7-8 buds.

Sweet fragrance. Yellow standards. Falls have a white ground with yellow hafts and wide band. Maroon lines radiate out across the hafts and below the beard forming a pattern. The cross that produced Curly Fries was made note only for color but form. Both parents are known to transmit a nice ruffled form to its children so it seemed like a perfect marriage. Really beautiful ruffles and a bright orange beard. Very cool looking.

DAINTY BRIDE (P. Black '25)
SDB Late-very late 14” (35.5cm) Slight sweet fragrance.
It is another of my late blooming, multiple budded and branched SDBs. The flowers are a miniaturized version of Bride’s Halo. White flowers have narrow light yellow bands. Show stalks have three branches and 8-9 buds. Unheard of for a SDB. From two of my favorite varieties.
