Sweet fragrance. Very pretty shade of mauve to lavender standards, deeper in color at the base. Pretty buff pink style arms add a bit of subtle contrast. Falls are very light mauve to near white. Beards are a true lavender with white hair tips. This iris is from blue bearded pink breeding. I can visualize someday having a white with a large lavender beard. Sdlg. Slight fragrance. If you have ever wondered what that iris is on the homepage of the website, well here it is. Pretty Rich likely will never win on the show bench, as the stems are a bit high branched and tighter budded. However, the flowers open sequentially, clumps have a long season of bloom, and the color is to die for. Very strong growth and beautiful healthy foliage add to its garden value. Sdlg. Light fragrance. Light flesh pink standards. Falls are lighter with a red violet stitched bar across the haft and a deep blue violet dart that extends below the beard to halfway down the petal. Standards are a very light creamy yellow with a deep golden yellow center. Falls are creamy white with a nice lavender to violet band. The hafts are also touched a bit with lemon. This strong grower has excellent form and stems with lots of buds. It has been used extensively in hybridizing and has proven to be a quality parent. A standout iris!

This one is a bit hard to describe. Standards are a lovely blended lavender with medium burnt orange centers transitioning to orange veins as they move toward the edge. Falls are a complex blend of colors that appear as a deep burnt orange to red creating a very lovely and distinctive color. Great branching and stems carry well-formed flowers that are a true delight. Coming from the beautifully colored and formed Shockaholic. Challenge Accepted is a nice advancement in this color pattern.

An intense gold with greenish undertones, giving a bit of an olive cast. Beards are very brown in appearance. A very attractive color combination on a well formed flower.

Very light lemon to cream standards have darker lemon centers. Falls are a deep red violet with a small yellow area around the beard. There is a bit of bluish violet blending below the beard, and a wide heavily ruffled and blended yellow band. Never Ending Story has gorgeous classical form with heavy ruffles on nice stems. A really lovely iris!

It is easy to make a habit of this well-formed light silvery blue-violet and dark purple bitone with neat two-tone beards. Show stalks have three branches plus two spurs and 10-11 buds. Makes a lovely clump. Another very interesting parentage.

PLAY WITH ZEBRAS (P. Black '25)

Talk about a zebra of a different stripe. This is one of the few broken color plicatas, and one with sterling plant habits and superbly formed flowers. White standards have a wide dark purple plicata band and closely spaced dotting over the center. Wide and ruffled falls are white with dark purple broken color segments, streaks, dotting, and sanding. Show stalks have three branches and 7-8 buds. I’m working on zebras in other colors now. What a fun project this is!

Imagine white cascades of water plunging into white sprays darkening into dark blue waves moving outward. Angel Falls is an intriguingly stunning sight. Bright marigold beards are a bit of sun to highlight the moment. Purple based foliage extending to clean blue-green leaves is a special bonus. Show branched stalks have 3 branches plus spur and 9-10 buds. A clump of these beauties is unforgettable.

Box of Sunshine stood head and shoulders above its siblings of diverse blacks, purples, bitones, caramel blends, and even a plicata. Large, heavily ruffled flowers have standards of palest olive white blended to wide mid yellow bands. Strongly flared falls of milk glass white are decorated with mid yellow hafts and band. Its 3 branches carry 8-9 buds.

BLUEPRINT FOR SPRING (P. Black '25)

What makes this light blue bitone with falls veined darker mid-blue special? I think it is the best attempt so far to put a pink beard on a blue iris. It has been a challenge for many hybridizers. Its other special feature is the clumps filled with bloom stalks creating an overpowering display of color in the garden. To say it is floriferous is an understatement, and yet, there is plenty of increase left.

This mid-dark violet-blue bitone has the impact of powerful Atlantic waves. Mid plum veins are drawn over the large white fall patch surrounding large marigold beards. Strong, well-branched stalks have 3 branches and 8-9 buds.
