A hard iris to describe but here goes. Burnt orange to salmon blended Standards are shot violet in the center. Falls have a cream and salmon ground overlaid with a deep black cherry plicata bar across the hafts and band around edge. Burnt orange to brown beards. Strong well branched stems carry up to 11 buds. A very showy garden favorite! We like!!

Medium pink Standards and edge on rose to lavender pink falls. Strange violet tipped orange beards add to the interest. Hard to convey the beauty of this one in a photo. Garden visitors often commented on their love for it.

A lovely clean and ruffled bicolor iris. Standards are icy white with light lemon highlights especially shot up the midrib. Falls are a plush burgundy with nice wide and precise lavender bands and a darker wire rim. Nice orange beards contrast nicely with the plush burgundy falls. A favorite and used a lot in hybridizing.

WIND BENEATH MY WINGS (P. Black ‘19)

What a beauty she is as she takes flight. Standards of heavily ruffled blooms are shaded light pink and are edged with ivory lace. Wide falls are light buff peach with darker veins and ivory laced edges. Burnt orange beards are an interesting contrast. Strong show stalks have 3 branches and 7-8 buds.

WRAP HER UP (T. Johnson ’21)

Apricot to salmon pink standards with a rosy lavender flush up the midrib. Falls are a rich magenta rose that is very clean with a nice ruffled edge and red orange beards. Wrap Her Up is a very clean bicolor and we think much prettier than the photo depicts. With very pretty show stems, Wrap Her Up makes a very elegant show near the end of the season.

Sweet fragrance. A very early and long blooming variety, definitely in the top ten to start the season. Marked as an introduction from its maiden bloom it has performed consistently every year. A bit hard to capture but the color is so bright in the sun it appears on fire. Beautiful full ruffled form and show stems with ample buds. Brilliant gold standards sit atop rich burgundy red falls with orange beards. A definite garden favorite.

Sweet fragrance. Light yellow standards sit atop clean orchid blue falls. There is a lighter orchid wash area below the yellow-orange beard. Great stems with nice branching and bud count. The form is wide and expansive with nice ruffles. The photo shows what the flower looks like after it has been fully open for a day. The color starts out darker and transforms to the photo color. A very clean and pretty bicolor.

Slight sweet fragrance. Its colors and markings are variable. Whether it makes it a broken color, I don’t know. Slate mauve and violet standards are flecked amber as are dark old gold styles. Mid caramel falls have red-brown flecks and mid black cherry signals veined red-black.

Light sweet fragrance. Flesh pink Standards with deeper pink centers and a bit of lavender shot up the midrib. Falls are a rich deep royal purple with a lighter purple edge. Orange beards are tipped lavender. This is a striking bicolor in an uncommon color combination. Strong well branched show stems carry 9 buds. Gorgeous! Sdlg. TJ303XX: Future Ruler X Secret Status.

SHIVERS (T. Johnson ’23) TB Midseason 37” (94cm) Sweet fragrance. Wow, just wow is what I say each time I see this one in flower. Nearest attempt yet to a black amoena that we have seen. Icy blue white standards have a gilt gold edge and the visible style crests are also etched in gold. Falls are about a dark a black purple as there is. Beards are a burnt orange. Shivers is also blessed with beautiful form, ruffles, stems and good bud count. Absolutely spectacular. Check out additional pictures including clump shots of it on the website. Sdlg. HOT WIRED (L. Miller ’23)

Light fragrance. Not just another plicata! Standards are mostly solid rich maroon with slight undertones of apricot in the center. The lacey edges of the very dark apricot styles are trimmed in maroon. Flaring falls have apricot-peach ground bordered by a solid maroon edge that turns to dots as it extends from the burnt dark orange beards. 9 to 10 buds on well branched stalks. Pronounced sweet fragrance The layers of color in the falls is entrancing. Standards and styles are mid gold. Black cherry hafts of falls blend to mid rose and then are banded bronzy brown. Sweet fragrance Lavender blue standards; falls are lavender blue with a deeper violet blue brindled wash. Beards are burnt orange with lavender tips. Can Just Imagine is very tall and stately with beautiful show stems. It is a “fancy” which in hybridizing talk means it is about one generation away from being a luminata. A unique and striking feature is beautiful lavender spathes and stems. It is very hard to photograph but is very noticeable in the garden. We have used this one quite a lot in hybridizing.
