This bright and showy iris is being named in honor of Thomas’s grandmother. It is a beauty to look at and a durable workhorse in the garden. Clear vivid yellow standards color is repeated over the hafts. Mid lavender blue blended falls give way to brassy gold bands.

Sweet fragrance. Striking and colorful variegata. Standards are blended honey tan and falls are rich smooth burgundy black. Beards black tan tipped tangerine orange. Interesting parent and should give some great seedlings. We made a cross in the Sutton Garden when it was in California; it is a major part of the pollen parent.

MARSHMALLOW SKIES (T. Johnson ’23)

Light sweet fragrance. Very light lavender to white standards with a bit of pink at the base. Falls are a rich medium lavender. This is an iris that we adore. The flowers are so immense and with the wide ruffles it looks like floating clouds when it is in full flower. It is so hard to capture its true grandeur in a photograph. Lovely and an easy grower. SECRET CHORD (T. Johnson ’23)

Light fragrance. The color of Secret Chord is hard to describe but here we go. Standards have a brassy gold base then they are washed and dotted mulberry in the center finally forming a brass band. Falls are creamy white with deep violet on either side of, (and forming a dart just below), the beard. There is a deep mulberry red fall band with purple violet dots inside the band. All in all it makes for a very startling color combo. Combine all that with wide heavily ruffled form and you have a grand garden iris. We have used Secret Chord heavily in our breeding program. Sweet fragrance. medium flesh pink standards. Falls are blended lavender blue with a washed orchid band and lavender edge. Fall centers are washed with a light pink. Large and nicely ruffled flowers are well branched and budded. A very regal and beautiful iris. Sdlg. Z29-2:

BOXING RING (T. Johnson ’25)
TB Early-midseason 38” (96.5cm) Sweet fragrance.
Standards are a medium yellow with a darker edge. Falls are a very light yellow with deep lemon yellow hafts. A wide ruffled deep maroon band frames the pattern. It is hard to capture the true grandeur of Boxing Ring in a photo. The flowers are very large and widely formed with great ruffles. It creates a very dramatic look in the garden. Much admired by garden visitors, it is a gorgeous iris that will not be overlooked.

WALTZ RIGHT IN (Thomas Johnson ’26)

Standards are medium lavender with darker lavender dotting in the center. Falls are pristine white with a deep purple to near black haft. There is a purple dotted band, followed by a solid deep violet to near black band with a lighter pencil edge. It is stunning and bold, just like someone who would “waltz right in”.
