 | | | Black 07; After this many generations of breeding, I'm ready to CELEBRATE! CELEBRATE has great eye appeal. Standards are medium silvery orchid with grape-purple plicata bands that have darker stitching and darker purple midribs. Falls are white washed light silvery lilac and banded iridescent red-grape which in turn has the same color stitching and some dotting inside it. Beards are very distinctive with 3 layers of color. The base is white layered with violet and then brown-black on top. CELEBRATE may be hard to describe but it is lovely to look at. Makes a stunning and colorful clump. Great parent. |

 | | | T.Johnson 07; CLEVER has a very different, albeit rather subdued, applicaton of the plicata pattern. Instead of the markings being on hafts or around edges, they are washed bands over the central portions of the falls. CLEVER presents some very interesting possibilities for breeding. Form is full and round. Standards are medium yellow gold with styles being more gold. Falls have three bands of color / patterning. Circular areas around big, bright orange beards are medium gold with just a bit of orange blended in. Around this is a small band of muted, mottled, mid charcoal-violet plicata sanding giving way to a wide, muted gold band. If you're one of the smart ones, you'll be CLEVER and use this one for breeding new and unusual colors and patterns. |

| | Black '09; One of my hybridizing goals is to breed SDBs that bloom later than normal; therefore, Delayed Development. Bloom begins as most other SDBs are finishing. Perfectly formed flowers are bright yellow gold. Falls have a network of darker old gold veins over hafts and below beards, then changing to a heavy wash of old gold. Big orange beards jazz it up. |
